Immunology All research activities of the Section of Immunology are housed in the Yale Child Health Research Center, a $3 million facility that was renovated by the Department three years ago. Members of the faculty of the Section are included on training grants from the section of infectious diseases (Pediatrics), the section of allergy and clinical immunology (Medicine), the section of Immunobiology, and the program of Microbial Pathogenesis (MBB). Research funding within the Section totals approximately $950,000 in TDC per year, exclusive of the $1 million Pediatric Scientist Development Program. Given its research strengths, over the past 12 months the Section has continued to advance its clinical agenda by increasing outpatient visits by approximately 40%. With some administrative support and minimal nursing support, the section has achieved the best patient satisfaction survey results of all the pediatric
medical subspecialties. A new liaison with the Yale Health Plan promises to augment extramural support for a faculty salary and to increase referrals to members of the division.

This page allows you to find all relevant Nature Publishing Group resources in the field of immunology View jobs in immunology WEB FOCUS: Regulatory Lymphocytes The concept of immune regulation mediated by specialized lymphocytes has risen to prominence in recent years. Few investigators now doubt the existence of lymphocytes that can suppress harmful immune responses such as autoimmunity and allograft rejection. But, how many different subsets are there, how do they mediate their effects and what is their therapeutic potential? In March 2003, Nature Reviews Immunology brings you a special issue and Webfocus that attempt to address these issues. We have also included a special free feature - a collection of Viewpoint articles, written by experts in immune regulation, which provide a broad cross-section of opinions on regulatory T cells and their potential applications in the clinic.

Welcome to the Baylor College of Medicine's Department of Immunology, located in the heart of Houston, Texas. The Department of Immunology offers a program leading to the Ph.D. and has ongoing research programs in molecular aspects of lymphocyte differentiation and function, including MHC expression and peptide interactions; class I MHC structure and function; germinal center biology; HIV pathogenesis; immune responses to gene therapy; inflammation and allergy; signal transduction; and V(D)J recombination. The department also has state-of-the-art research facilities completed in 1999 that offer the open space design popular in laboratories today, with the north windows offering a terrific view of the Houston skyline. There are spaces for shared equipment and core facilities for flow cytometry and protein chemistry within the department that feature the latest instruments and technologies.

INTERDEPARTMENTAL PROGRAM The Program in Immunology is an interdepartmental program offering training and research opportunities leading to a Ph.D. in immunology. The goal of the program is to develop young investigators who will have a solid foundation in basic biomedical sciences and who will carry out innovative research in immunology. The program features a flexible selection of courses and seminars to enrich students' background in biomedical science, combined with extensive research training through laboratory rotations and thesis research supervised by the immunology faculty. The participating faculty members have internationally recognized research programs in the major areas of modern immunology - cellular, genetic and clinical - and have been leaders in the development of new research approaches in the field. The long tradition of interaction among the immunology laboratories at Stanford fosters highly productive interdisciplinary research, with an emphasis on the application of molecular approaches to problems in cellular and clinical immunology. The training environment is outstanding. Graduate student and postdoctoral trainees in the various immunology research groups get together at seminars, journal clubs, and the annual Stanford Immunology Scientific Conference, and they interact frequently in their research. Students also benefit from the overall excellence in biomedical research and teaching at Stanford.
