In 1900 Abraham was appointed as a Privatdozet at Gottingen .He lectured at Gottingen as a Privatdozet until 1909, which is an unusual length of time for anyone to hold such an unpaid lecture lecturing position. In 1909 Abraham accepted a post at the University of Illinois. Disliking the small university atmosphere he returned to Gottingen. Abraham next went to Italy at the intervention of Livie Civita. Next Abraham was a professor of rational mechanics of the at the University of Milan until 1914. Abraham and Einstein strongly disagreed on math subjects. Abraham was forced to go back to Germany for World War 1. Abraham worked on a radio transmission and he worked at Stuttgart 1921. He was unable to go back to Mali because of the war.
