21. European Movement (UK)
Allparty movement campaigning for the European Union to become more democratic and effective, and for Britain to play a full role within it.
http://www.euromove.org.uk/
We are Britain's largest pro-European membership organisation and were formed by Sir Winston Churchill in 1948. Today European Movement members across the country campaign in their local communities for Britain to play a leading role in a strong, democratic and reformed Europe and join the single currency. The European Movement is a partner organisation in the Britain in Europe coalition. In the modern world Britain cannot afford to go it alone - we are better off in Europe. Over half of our trade is with Europe, and 3.5 million jobs are directly dependent on this. Outside the euro we are isolated from our closest trading partners putting our trade, foreign investment and, ultimately, jobs at risk. Welcome to the website of the European Movement. The European Movement is crucial to winning the battle for the hearts and minds of the British public. This battle cannot be won by the leaders of the pro-European coalition alone, we need a strong campaigning force of pro-Europeans in every community across the UK making the case for Britain in Europe.
Anyone who wants to play a part in winning the great debate should join the European Movement.

The Czech Republic and the European Union Shortly after the political changes in 1989, the Czech Republic set for itself the goal of achieving full membership of two major western organisations: the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). For the Czech Republic, the European Union is a natural partner with whom it shares similar civilisation values of democracy, solidarity, respect for human rights and protection of minorities. Very important is also the geographic proximity of the EU; the Czech Republic shares the longest part of its border with two EU Member States, Austria and Germany. The EU is at the same time the major market for most of the Czech exports; and, as early as in the beginning of the 1990s, the EU has became the country’s biggest trading partner and investor. Furthermore, the Czech Republic is ready to participate in the decision-making on the peaceful future of Europe, prepared to assume its portion of responsibility. All that have been good reasons for significant deepening of mutual relations. In 1993, the Czech Republic concluded the Europe Agreement, which makes mutual trade between the Czech Republic and the EU easier by removing custom tariffs and other barriers for exports and imports. Besides, both parties, the Czech Republic and the EU, have made the commitments to promote mutual cooperation in the political, economic and social areas, as well as in the fields of education or culture.

Despite its liberalisation measures and notwithstanding a rapid increase in foreign trade since 1991 (its share of world trade increased from 0.2 to 0.5%), Argentina still maintains certain aspects of a closed economy. The applied tariff rate is 13.5 %. Tariff escalation remains pronounced in all sectors and important market access barriers persist in a number of areas. Measures taken the Argentinean Government to overcome the persistent economic crisis has not improved the situation. For further details, click here 3. 37. Tobacco Policy In The European Union: Fact Sheet No. 20 - ASH
ASHUK factsheet presents smoking and tobacco use prevalence, advertising, policy, and industry trends by country in the EU.
http://www.ash.org.uk/html/factsheets/html/fact20.html
FACT SHEET NO. 20 December  2002 TOBACCO POLICY IN THE EUROPEAN UNION Smoking prevalence The proportion of adults who smoke in the European Union ranges from 19% in Sweden to 37% in Greece and Germany. Country (year) Total % of smokers % of men % of women Country (year) Total % of smokers % of men % of women Austria Belgium Denmark Finland France Germany Greece Ireland Italy Luxembourg Netherlands Portugal Spain Sweden UK * EU average The UK figures quoted in other ASH factsheets are taken from the ONS 2000 General Household Survey. The smoking  prevalence figures are 27% of the adult population: 29% of men and 25% of women. Tobacco-related deaths It is estimated that tobacco use is responsible for more than half a million deaths every year across the EU.   In 1995,  237 000 Europeans died prematurely in  middle age. Of these 118,000 were due to cancer, 62,500 due to vascular diseases and 47,000 due to respiratory ailments. Tobacco control policy in the European Union Efforts to reduce tobacco consumption in the EU have included preventative / educational campaigns and legislation. The principal framework for smoking education campaigns has been  the Europe Against Cancer programme which began in 1987.  In 1992, the Community Fund for Research and Information on Tobacco was created from a levy on the subsidies given to the growing of tobacco in the EU.  From this fund, about five million euros was made available for public information projects on the dangers of smoking and a similar amount for research into developing less dangerous varieties of tobacco.
