COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE Providing the Answer Before you Ask the Question
  • Do I need to have a bachelor's degree to apply to your program? No, you do not need to have a BA or BS to apply. As long as you have fulfilled the admissions requirement courses, and you have taken the MCAT/GRE, you are academically eligible to apply to Western University's College of Veterinary Medicine.
  • How do I know if my courses fulfill WesternU's course requirements? It is essential that you complete the courses listed on the prerequisite list. However, the course you take does not necessarily have to have the same title as the course found on the list, it merely has to cover the topic area. For example, if you have taken an economics course titled "The Economic Impact of US relations with China, and the course description says that it 'investigates the macroeconomics of relations between the U.S. and China', then this course will fulfill our requirement. Another example; if you have taken a math statistics, psychology statistics, or economic statistics course that covers the basic statistics methodology it will satisfy the statistics requirement.
  • Do I need a quarter or a semester of the required courses?

One of the college's basic goals is educating future veterinarians. During the four-year program leading to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) degree, veterinary students at the University of Florida are exposed to many aspects of veterinary medicine. Areas of strength at the college include: comparative medicine, food animal medicine, laboratory animal medicine, aquatic medicine, environmental medicine, large animal medicine and surgery, and small animal medicine and surgery. Eighty students are admitted to the professional degree program at the college each year, and requests for application continue to increase. At present, approximately one student is selected for every five who apply for admision. The college curriculum is designed to provide educational opportunities that will allow and encourage students to acquire the knowledge, skills, experiences, values and attitudes necessary to become, and to remain, high-quality veterinarians. The curriculum requires general training concerning health and disease of a broad range of domestic animals and wildlife, yet provides opportunities for students to gain more in-depth training in selected species of animals or disciplines.

Veterinary Faculty University of Zagreb was founded in 1919 as a Veterinary College, and was on 7 December 1924 transformed into the Veterinary Faculty to make an integral part of the University of Zagreb. The Veterinary Faculty curriculum is set up according to the criteria determined by the University of Zagreb. Furthermore, through the content and scope of its studies Veterinary Faculty aims to meet high standards of the European veterinary faculties such as Veterinar-medizinische Universitat Wien, Justus- Liebing Universitat Giessen (Veterinarmedizin) and Faculteitdiergeneeskunde, Universitet Utrecht. Studies are focused much more on basic medical research than on technology, and the students are being educated with the purpose of being able to carry out veterinary practice autonomously.
Fast accumulation of scientific knowledge, particularly in the field of medicine, urges reaffirmation of basic theoretic facts but also introduction of the changes into the curriculum, which based upon the applied sciences generally has to be modified every five years. The undergraduate studies are divided into the theoretical classes in the course of which basic postulates are taught, seminars - in the course of which particular topics are analysed, and practical work. Clinical work, which makes an integral part of the tuition at the modern European universities, has been introduced into the undergraduates' curriculum as well. Optional courses on the subjects that are not in the center of students professional interests but which broaden the students knowledge also make a part of the curriculum.
