CONTENTS
Introduction
In 1993, when I first began to research theatre sites on the internet, it was a difficult and laborious project. Sites were hard to find, search engines were underdeveloped, there were very few theatre people who had taken an interest in, or even knew about the internet. Obviously, things have changed. Now the World Wide Web is easily accessible through a variety of web browsers, making specific knowledge of such utilities as telnet, ftp, and gopher more or less obsolete. There are now so many theatre-related sites that keeping a truly comprehensive guide to resources theatre on the internet, compiled and maintained through human intervention, is incredibly time-consuming. The area of performance studies is even more of a problem, with its incursions into popular culture, communication studies, and hundreds of other (legitimate!) tangents.

    South Dakota Content Standards

The South Dakota Content Standards articulate an essential core of knowledge and skills that the state as a whole wants students to master. Standards clarify what students are expected to know and be able to do at various points in their K-12 academic career. Local adoption and implementation of state standards ensures that the education students receive is consistently strong across all of South Dakota, and that completion of high school has common meaning throughout the state. Developing state standards is a challenging undertaking. In South Dakota, it has been a combined effort of the South Dakota Board of Education, veteran educators, state agency staff, senior scholars, interested citizens, and high-level policymakers. The most recent phase began with the common-sense notion that an academic standard must be clear, specific and measurable. Further, it must be simply stated in plain English and written for the general public as well as for educators. The core of knowledge and skills set forth as board-adopted Standards

The section is responsible for information published by government agencies at the federal (United States), state, international, and foreign country levels. Since 1993, all titles have been included in the On-Line Catalog and are best searched using the KEYWORD (k=) method. An advantage of using the KEYWORD search method, even for fully cataloged items with subject and author access, is that the index is arranged in chronological order with the most recent titles listed first. Most government publications can be checked out at the Documents Information Desk located in the area. Ask for assistance in locating materials and for individual research instruction at this desk also.
