Quotes about XML in 1999
Monday, January 3, 2000
If you think about it, the namespace idea is the real key to XML success: namespaces are "versors" of an "infinite-dimension" solution space. Topologically speaking, while SGML is an single infinite dimension, XML is an infinite set of infinite dimensions. Mathematically speaking, you can create a one to one relationship with all the points of XML to SGML (like it's done considering, for example, "xsl:stylesheet" like a one dimensional SGML element, rather than the "stylesheet" element of the "xsl" namespace). This may lead to imply that SGML and XML have the same "multidimentional" volume. Thus, namespaces don't alter the topological tissue of XML (which remains flat and one-dimentional), but simply adds "classes" of elements to allow elements to share the same name, but have different meanings. Stefano Mazzocchi on the Apache XML mailing list

1999 was the year that XML stepped away from its research background and became a real technology. Now it's got the support of the software vendor community, as well as the user community, who've proven its usefulness in their strategic projects. Phil Costa, Giga Information Group

I know ways of doing all of these using the standard lightwave procedural textures and I am sure you would be surprised at the quality of the results. Anything from deep sea ocean waves to pond ripples in the rain :) I do know where to find the textures from titanic, but i doubt the owners would give them to you :) They are a series of specially designed procedural functions for high end graphics interfaces like SoftImage and PowerAnimator. Don't believe the adds about lightwave being used for titanic. Load of bolshoi. Comment from 11/29/1998 11:01AM PST i'm not looking for a enviromental effect of any kind, just the textures for the ship itself. thanks anyway

The Titanic, Pizza Delivery, Community Development, and the Internet Randy Stoecker University of Toledo randy.stoecker@utoledo.edu Keynote address prepared for the Third Communities Networking/Networking Communities conference, Victoria University of Technology, St. Albans, Victoria, Australia, February 28, 1998. Revised March 2. Comments welcome. INTRODUCTION What you ask, do the Titanic, pizza delivery, community development and the Internet have to do with each other? Good question. I have tried for weeks now to decide what I may have to offer hereas someone from far away with no more expertise on the Internet than the best people already in this room. What I can offer, I hope, is a perspective—one borne of some experience and, I would like to think, much thought. It is the perspective of a sociologist who has worked for over a decade with communities trying to physically and culturally rebuild themselves. And, most recently, it is the perspective of a sociologist trying to use the Internet in rebuilding those communities and building new communities. While I believe deeply in the importance of understanding the world through operating in it, I also believe deeply in the importance of reflection and criticismwhich is one of the things that marks me as a sociologist. That gets me in trouble sometimes. One of my community activist friends describes "an academic" as someone who "likes to come kicking and screaming through an open door." That description fits no academic better than the sociologist.

Characters Mission History The Nova Dragons operate from the Shadowport of Drex IV. Their first commission was to run an Imperial blockade to resupply a Rebel outpost. JD Brickman was hired as an extra pair of hands for this mission and joined on a full time basis shortly after its completion. The success of this operation brought the Nova Dragons to the attention of Pete Chase, a retired merchant, with Rebel sympathies. He commissioned the unit, together with a second freelance unit, The Blades, to rescue his daughter Salean from an Imperial prison transport ship. As well as Salean, the group rescued a number of other Rebel prisoners at the same time. Those Rebels created the Nova Dragon unit symbol at this time as a thank you. A bodyguard mission on Ord Mantell was one of the early instances where Kethan began to feel the first emergence of his Force powers. Whilst relaxing after this excursion, the unit encountered a Twi'lek named Dev Fort, who hired them for a transport run. Kethan clearly stated that no live (non-consenting, anyway) cargo would be carried. During loading a container required opening, revealing an emaciated group of chained slaves (Raggyrannrr, Kribaczek, Morrez and Grat). Outraged, Chaide stormed out, and only some quick words from Kethan persuaded him to stay. Avoiding a scene at the starport, the Nova Dragons tracked the shipment to its source and stormed the slave camp, freeing the remaining slaves held there and destroying the camp on their departure. Zulah, impressed by the rescue hooked up with the Nova Dragons, as did the 4 slaves from the container.

I. THE VISIBLE UNIVERSE.
Among those masses of cathedral sculpture which preserve so much
of medieval theology, one frequently recurring group is
noteworthy for its presentment of a time-honoured doctrine
regarding the origin of the universe. The Almighty, in human form, sits benignly, making the sun, moon, and stars, and hanging them from the solid firmament which supports the "heaven above" and overarches the "earth beneath." The furrows of thought on the Creator's brow show that in this work he is obliged to contrive; the knotted muscles upon his arms

The last week was July 14-20: Scotland and Ireland
Dublin and Amsterdam
Wednesday, July 28, 1999
Today we went to Dublin. The early bus left at 8, and we barely made it on time. This was another Ulsterbus trip, but this one was scheduled to take 3 hours. We slept a little on the bus, and got a good look at Irish countryside. It was green. 80% grass and fields, 10% sheep and 10% traffic roundabouts. Upon arrival, we visited a bank and withdrew a little money. Dublin is in the part of Ireland that has nothing to do with England, so they have their own money. In Belfast, we were in Pseudo-England, so we were still using Pounds Sterling, but here we were withdrawing something new. They are called Punts. They are nice, worth about $1.15 apiece instead of $1.66 for the Sterling, so they were easy to relate with. At the same time however, we only wanted to get as much money as we were going to spend in this one day. I withdrew 20 punts, hoping it would last until I got back on the bus.
Dublin seemed a lot like an American city, even though the street signs and such were written first in another language. We had breakfast and saw the freedom and anti-slavery ball-sculpture on the way to breakfast. We passed by what was left of a building on the way to the tourist information center. We didn't see a whole lot in the office that we were thrilled to go see. Only the Guinness brewery seemed like a worthy site to seek out. I realize how sad that probably sounds, but the rest of the sights were Universities and the James Joyce museum and lame-sounding fountains. So, we were off to the Guinness hopstore. Where we saw ads and took funny pictures. We were rewarded at the end of the tour with a tasty sample-pint of Guinness. All the museum-goers were in this little bar at the end, where you could order food, and everyone had a dark glass of Guinness. I would have loved to have been drinking a bottle of Corona in there, it would have been hilarious!

Why ROAR?
The Rise of ROAR
How Did ROAR Begin? Please sign our Guest Book! THE PPP: GUYANA'S TITANIC By Harry Persaud The old saying that a dying snake is the most dangerous must have some truth to it, as we are witnessing examples of it in Guyana's political arena. Reports coming out of Guyana should be of concern to anyone who is following political development in that country. What cannot be denied it that Ravi Dev's ROAR gain much of its notoriety during the vicious racial riots against Indians in 1998/1999 and the murderous politically crime wave in between. The PPP was caught by surprise and was totally unprepared. Outsmarted, unprepared, with no options they quickly negotiated deals with the PNC, which now they can't fulfilled. During the riots, when leaders were badly need, none were to be found. elected officials were hiding leaving innocent Indians to face PNC inspired rioters. Indians will never forget this. The only man who was demanding justice and still is, is Mr. Ravi Dev. PPP economic/social policies and action didn't help their cause either. Suspected Criminals are rewarded with high level appointments. Shahabudeen, Ramphal, Police commissioner Laurie Lewis, Labor Minister Henry Jeffries and Hanoman once PNC supporters are now welcome into the PPP. This is a party that proclaimed "Lean and Clean" during the 1992 campaign. The PPP was blackmailed into give a 40% pay raise to PNC controlled Unions while robbing the Indian dominated GAWU. IMF/World bank claimed that 4000 Black dominated governments jobs are not needed in Georgetown the President responded by saying none will be fired, yet 8,000 jobs in the sugar industry was eliminated an industry dominated by Indians.
