LOOK IS AMONG THE TOP 10 BRANDS CITED IN THE OLYMPIC GAMES
The Secodip Company (Taylor Nelson/Sofres group) has recently published the results of a study carried out during the Olympic Games in Sydney.
Look came in 7th place in this media brand analysis. This place was earned thanks to the excellent performance of track cyclists in the French team, who won 6 medals (including 4 gold medals).
Look won a total of 7 medals: 6 with the French team + a bronze medal with Chinese female cyclist Jiang Cui Hua (500 M). The new bike used by the French track cycling team, Look KG 396 Sydney, a genuine "Formula 1" in cycle stadiums, received exceptional play along with French teams in all of the media: press, TV, and radio. It should also be noted that many reports about Look and the French team track cyclists were placed on Internet sites. (The Internet sites are not taken into account in the study conducted by Secodip's sponsoring department). From Nevers to Sydney… The Look KG 396 Sydney bike had a stunning effect in Sydney. The French track cyclists surpassed themselves, transforming carbon into Olympic gold. Look has accompanied the French cycling Federation for several years, because athletic performance is now intimately connected with technological performance.

Radio National's The Sports Factor with Amanda Smith
Summary:
This week, the role and responsibility of the print media in reporting on the Olympic Games.
REG GRATTON, the manager of the Main Press Centre for the 2000 Games, believes that while television and radio are the dominant media presence during the Olympic Games, it's the newspaper journalists who are the opinion-makers. And MATTHEW MOORE, Olympics editor for the Sydney Morning Herald, says he's often attacked for writing negative stories about the Sydney Games organisation. He contends that if the organisers operated with less secrecy, he wouldn't have to.
Plus, the factors that contribute to making an elite sportsperson. ROY HAY is part of an international research group that's established that players with particular birthdays are more likely to make it to the top. It's less to do with astrology than a 'relative age effect', which occurs in junior sport.
And SHEILA SCRATON, one of the co-ordinators of a European study on women and sport, discusses the reasons - beyond natural ability and training - that allow girls to become top level soccer players.

Joyner-Kersee, Jones advance to the long jump final SportsLine.com wire reports
July 15, 2000
SACRAMENTO, Calif. The dream goes on for Jackie Joyner-Kersee. It also goes on for Marion Jones. Joyner-Kersee, the most decorated U.S. woman in Olympic track and field history with six medals, including three golds, returned to competition after a two-year absence Friday night and qualified for the long jump final in the U.S. Olympic trials. The popular 38-year-old star, who was voted the outstanding women's athlete of the 20th century, was accorded a rousing ovation by the capacity crowd of 23,211 at hot and humid Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium after her third and final jump. Joyner-Kersee is bidding for her fifth Olympic team, an accomplishment that would equal the American record for a woman's track and field athlete, held by another long jumper, Willye White.

Greetings and Happy post-Olympic Games!
This has been a fun and exciting month, mainly due to the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City! Many of us here at the BASOC offices were fortunate enough to attend part of the Games. From pre-Opening Ceremonies to post-Closing Ceremonies, representatives from BASOC and it’s Board of Directors joined the festivities in Utah. The Olympic Games went smoothly and Salt Lake City did an incredible and amazing job during the two weeks. Kudos to them the Salt Lake City Organizing Committee. Special congratulations to Brandi Chastain, Captain of the San Jose CyberRays and two-time Olympian, for her commitment to being a great role model for girls and young women and a community leader. Brandi will receive the Juliette Gordon Low Award, presented by the Girls Scout of Santa Clara County (the highest award given by the council to a leader in the community) on March 20, 2002. Congratulations, Brandi! Best Regards

Jones, Greene give U.S. golden 100-meter duo
Posted: Friday September 22, 2000 12:00 AM Marion Jones reacts after winning the 100 in a time of 10.75. Jeff Haynes/AFP SYDNEY, Australia (CNNSI.com) - Americans Marion Jones and Maurice Greene won their respective 100 meter races Saturday. Jones, who as a youngster wrote on a bedroom blackboard "I want to be an Olympic champion," got her wish on a chilly, wind-swept Saturday by winning the women's 100-meter final in 10.75 seconds. Her winning margin of .37 seconds over Ekaterini Thanou of Greece was the second biggest in Olympic 100-meter history. "It's been my dream for 19 years, and finally it's here," said a sobbing Jones, who hopes to win five gold medals in Sydney. One down, four to go.
