Let us write your speech
If you want a truly great speech, or if you don't have time to write a speech, leave it to us. After all, speech writing is what we do. In order to write your speech, Speech Write will ask you to complete a detailed form about the content you require. We will talk to you over the phone, at the very least and usually come and meet you to discuss your requirements and get a feel for how you talk. Then we prepare our first draft, let you have a look at it and then finalise your speech. Once your speech is complete we also provide you with a set of notes on how we think you should give the speech to maximise it's impact. If you want we can also rehearse you through the material.
How much does it cost?
The cost of a speech is extremely variable. It all depends on how long your speech needs to be, how much time you give us and whether you need supporting graphics. A single, simple speech may cost as little as £250 but prices can go up to £5,000 or more for a series of conference speeches, for instance.

Winston Churchill's First Speech
as Prime Minister
by Ron Kurtus (20 May 2001) Winston Churchill became U.K. Prime Minister on May 10, 1940, near the beginning of World War II. Three days later, he made his first speech to the House of Commons. In it, he made the oft-quoted statement, "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat." This was the first of many inspirational speeches he made during the war. Questions you may have include:
  • How can I use this address to improve my writing skills? How can I use this address to improve my speaking skills? What is the historical significance of this address?
This lesson will try to answer those questions.

You fill these in, supplying us with information about your company, the occasion, and the audience. We write a special, individualised script, usually proposing a ludicrous scenario, or contentious new direction that the company "is to take." Often the "guest speaker" is introduced as an overseas director of the company, if the company has a subsidiary overseas. Alternatively he can be introduced as a consultant, or advisor. The script becomes increasingly unrealistic, and is eventually exposed as a hoax! At that stage a popular alternative is to complete the performance with a "Roast" of some or all of the delegates and colleagues present, with "one-liners" to include as many of the audience as possible. The A-Z of Plain Text
SPEECHES AND PRESENTATIONS Business people spend a great deal of energy and time preparing, delivering and listening to speeches and presentations. This is not always enjoyable: presenters struggle to get complex slides and notes together and audiences fight to stay awake. However, if you follow some simple rules, giving and receiving presentations can be a happier experience for everyone.
  • Use an agenda an agenda is the 'roadmap' of your presentation. Whether you present it verbally or on a slide, reminding the audience where they are in a speech or presentation will hold their attention
  • Tell a story (see Telling Stories ) people like stories - even grown-up business people. Give your presentation a beginning, a middle and an end to boost its effectiveness
  • Know your stuff the hardest presentations to sit through are the ones where the presenter is unsure of their material. Being sure of your subject allows you to present in the conversational, storytelling style that audiences like
  • Think minimal - some say that one single idea is the most you can expect your audience to retain from a presentation. Focus on your main message and avoid presenting too many theories and concepts.

Materials a copy of Great American speeches 80 Years of Political Oratory competencein the general skills and strategies of the writing process evaluates
http://www.pbs.org/greatspeeches/teachers/t_ps.html
Could You Be a Speech Writer? Objectives:
Familiarity with historic and modern public figures and speakers, and with basic rhetoric technique. Activity:
Watch the segments of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" and Franklin Roosevelt's Declaration of War in Great American Speeches: 80 Years of Political Oratory , and discuss the impact that each of the two speakers had on the United States, politically, socially and otherwise. What has changed in the country and in the world from the times that both of these public speakers made their addresses? What has stayed the same? How does each man's manner of addressing his audience differ? What did each speaker hope to accomplish through his words? Did he succeed? Why is each style effective? Discuss public speaking: students should be already familiar with some basic rhetorical devices; refer them to "Worsdmith" section for examples and definitions of less common techniques of speech making. Explain elements of public address such as pacing, pitch, emotional appeal, reading the audience; the average speaker talks at between 75 and 125 words per minute. Take turns reading aloud and counting off the pace of each student orator. Assignment:
Write a short essay stating five reasons why the student feels that the speakers' addresses were successful or not.
