History
It is important to distinguish between present-day Austria and the Austrian and Austro-Hungarian Empire of the past. Many "Austian" towns and provinces are no longer part of Austria and many probably bear different names today. If you are not sure, check using any of the fine place finder resources. In some cases provinces have been re-defined or split amongst different countries. The following table illustrates a few (simplified) examples of such changes: German name English name Native name Now in . . . Krain Carniola Krajina mainly Slovenia Kroatien Croatia Hrvatska mainly Croatia Veneto Veneto Veneto Italy Schlesien Silesia Poland and Czech Republic Galizien Galicia mainly Poland Moravia mainly Czech Republic Bohemia Czech Republic Transylvania Romania Untersteiermark Lower-Styria Slovenia South Tyrol Italy For more detailed information see:

Abstract:
The article will introduce the system for till-graduated and permanent education for geography teachers in Slovenia and tendency for its quality rise in future. In Slovenia we have already made our national program of educational quality. We could ask us which parametrums of quality and pedagogical standards are expected in it, to assure good teaching of geography for instance. Among several basic parametrums of educational quality, which are written in the international standard ISO 8402, the education is defined as most important element for social and national development. Teachers
Education it self does not mean progress, conditions for this are: to have a quality educational process on all graduation levels and enough educational experts.
The basic disagreements between what we can measure and evaluate (geographical knowledge) and what we cannot evaluate as quantity (geographical upbringing) can be seen. Both should be very important to us, due to the tasks brought to us by the time in which we live. Thus we need a more didactically open curriculum, which would offer more possibilities of creative adaptations toward pupils needs.
Present geography education matches little with experience learning which is based upon a different philosophical and theoretical starting point, a different comprehension what the essence of knowledge, learning and teaching is. Geography didactics should therefore insert into the new curriculum the fact that pupils personal experiences are to be considered. We have not yet learned this in our geographical school practice. It has not been said enough about performance of the basic didactic principles.

In 1918 the Slovenes joined the Serbs and Croats in forming a new nation, renamed Yugoslavia in 1929. After World War II, Slovenia became a republic of the renewed Yugoslavia, which though communist, distanced itself from Moscow's rule. Dissatisfied with the exercise of power of the majority Serbs, the Slovenes succeeded in establishing their independence in 1991. Historical ties to Western Europe, a strong economy, and a stable democracy make Slovenia a leading candidate for future membership in the EU and NATO.

Slovenia lies on the southern slopes of the Alps and touches the Mediterranean, so it enjoys the benefit of the best of both worlds, as well as climatic uncertainties from both the north and the south. The country has also always been the crossroads between north and south, east and west and travellers have brought viticultural knowledge from all the prominent viticultural nations. There have been seven extraordinary vintages in the last century (1917, 1942, 1947, 1952, 1958, 1971, 1983) and 1993 is considered excellent, as well as 1994 in Primorje.
