47. Western European Culture In Miniature
but when you come here and get to know their work, you will surely recognise onefact little slovenia is a country with an amazingly rich history and culture.
http://www.gzs.si/ENG/slovenia/history2.htm
Western European Culture in Miniature The new Slovenian state is indeed young, but Slovenes were not born yesterday. They entered European history as a distinct nation some one-and-a-half thousand years ago, when they came to this country from the frozen east to worship the sun, life, and beauty of nature. They crowned their own princes and, in the middle of a field, set them on a throne fashioned from the debris of local Roman ruins. This throne has been preserved right up to the present day, and has been weathered by influences from both the East and the West. For a little over a thousand years the Slovenes lost their independence. They were ruled by Bavarian, Frankish, Czech and Hapsburg masters, and their pagan gods were replaced by the Christian God and the Slav spirit fused irrevocably with the culture of western Europe. Slovene art followed that of Europe from the Romanesque period on, first in church and monastic architecture, and then between the 12th and 15th centuries in the construction of castles and towns. Masters of Slovene Renaissance in sculpture and painting worked side by side with famous Italian artists. In 1992 Slovenia introduced its own currency, which many describe as one of the most attractive in Europe. The banknotes are illustrated with the images of the Renaissance composer Jacobus Gallus, the author of the first Slovene book Primoz Trubar, the historian Janez Vajkard Valvasor, the greatest Slovene poet France Prešeren, the world famous mathematician Jurij Vega, the painter Rihard Jakopic, the architect Joze Plecnik, whose buildings provide ornamentation for numerous European cities, the paintress Ivana Kobilca and the famous Slovenian writer and playwright Ivan Cankar. Their names may sound strange to those of you who are not yet familiar with the Slovene language, but when you come here and get to know their work, you will surely recognise one fact: little Slovenia is a country with an amazingly rich history and culture.

HOME HOLIDAY HOME HISTORY REGION SOCIETY ... ART OF PAINTING WRITERS, POETS AND PAINTERS' APPEAL TO RESPECT THE DIFFERENT
We all respect progress and the science which gives knowledge to the human race. Knowledge can be thought of as a crossroads where people meet to share their experiences. Every single way of expressing oneself is an art and thus a new experience for each and every generation to come. Therefore, there is also something to be found in the works of art of the Slovene paraplegics.
As regards the fine arts, literature, music, as well as the development of the scientific thought, one can not ignore the fact that it is from the most difficult situations that some of the best artists are born.
From the new situations people develop new abilities, through which man's real and direct creativeness comes to light. How should one spend one's own free time, and how should one express the zest for life that lies within us all. We are aware that if nature took this gift away from us our hearts would sink, the ray of hope would disappear and we would wither away like a flower without water. As we all put a part of ourselves into everything we do, whether we are a professional artist or not, an artist who creates with hands, foot or mouth. We give out a piece of ourselves. This process of giving arises from the need for artists to show their feelings and express their fondness for the art, as well as to share at least a little piece of their inner beauty and richness to the people around them.
