"Renaissance," French for "rebirth," perfectly describes the intellectual and economic changes that occurred in Europe from the fourteenth through the sixteenth centuries. During the era known by this name, Europe emerged from the economic stagnation of the Middle Ages and experienced a time of financial growth. Also, and perhaps most importantly, the Renaissance was an age in which artistic, social, scientific, and political thought turned in new directions. Join us as we explore the Renaissance and discover the forces that drove this rebirth in Europe, and in Italy in particular. "Renaissance" is inspired by programs from The Western Tradition

96. Forget-Me-Not
Cincinnati, Ohio based company. Performs and teaches dances from the renaissance to the First World War. Includes an overview of the dances, and news of upcoming events.
http://w3.one.net/~history/
Performance Services
Forget-Me-Not , The Historical Dance Company recreates the social dances of times past. Using authentic steps, we perform dances from American Colonial to the early 1920's. The company is dedicated to breathing life and fun into the social dances that thrilled, amused, titillated, and charmed generations of lords and ladies, pretenders, and common folk.
Our Mission
Forget-Me-Not has a mission to educate through workshops on dance and etiquette in ballrooms from the Renaissance to Ragtime and to entertain with colorful costumes, lively music, authentic steps and spirited interpretations. We hope to broaden our audiences' awareness of historical dance through performance and dance workshops. Through research in dance history and a dedication to authenticity, we are able to portray what dance was like in earlier periods. The company hopes to promote historical dance and keep it alive in this century and the next.
Profile
Forget-Me-Not is a gathering of talented dancers who have expressed an interest in learning, performing and teaching the dance styles of the early Renaissance through the Ragtime. The company's dancers come from a broad range of background and experience, with interests from folk dance, ballet, modern, and previous work with other historical dance companies. Several dancers performed in the television mini-series "North and South" .Two dancers were also Big Mice in the Cincinnati Ballet's production of "The Nutcracker". Two more dancers were a part of the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music's production of the ballet "Coppelia" in January 2000. A half dozen of the company were selected to dance in the upcoming Peridot Pictures "The Greatest Adventure of My Life" filmed in and around Bowling Green, Kentucky.
