Canada Plantwatch: List of Provincial Coordinators
Ecological Monitoring and Assessment Network (EMAN) the first meeting of regional coordinators for Canada Plantwatch was held May 2000 in Ottawa! Almost all provinces and territories were represented. Some of the provinces already had surveys running (Alberta, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador) and some start ed up last spring (British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, Nunavut, Northwest Territories and Yukon).
Canadians, see below for information on how to contact your provincial or territorial coordinators. Our plan for the future is to move the Plantwatch website to the EMAN website by this spring, where Canadian observers will link to their provincial pages, learn which plants can be found in each province and how to observe them. This will give us big improvements: observers will easily find the latitude/longitude of their locations, will have their data instantly mapped and will see the wave of bloom better visualized on maps.

Superior Courts
The Prince Edward Island Supreme Court Act establishes a superior court of record called the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island . That Court is composed of two divisions:
  • the Appeal Division , which sits in Charlottetown, and
  • the Trial Division , which sits in Georgetown, Charlottetown and Summerside.
The Trial Division is further divided into four sections:
  • the Estates Section , which exercises the jurisdiction conveyed to it by the Probate Act
  • the Family Section , which has jurisdiction in respect of family law,
  • the Small Claims Section , where cases are heard by a judge of the Supreme Court, and
  • the General Section
All appeals are heard by the Appeal Division

Canadian Heart Health Dissemination Project (CHHDP)
Project Summary
The CHHDP is a four-year (2000-2004) research project funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to study the provincial heart health dissemination projects that make up the Canadian Heart Health Initiative (CHHI). The CHHDP is designed to investigate the nature of the relationship between dissemination (activities and research) and capacity for heart health promotion.

Project Overview Dissemination of effective health practice and the capacity of organizations (e.g. public health, coalitions, NGOs) to implement effective public health practice is an essential element of the new public health. The Canadian Heart Health Dissemination Project (CHHDP) aims to consolidate the learnings across the provincial dissemination initiatives within the Canadian Heart Health Initiative (CHHI) in order to begin to understand how to build and maintain effective preventive health service systems. In brief, the CHHI (Figure 1), under leadership from Health Canada, has brought together researchers and public health leaders in each province over the last 15 years to conduct research that would inform cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention policies and practices in Canada.

Climate

Newfoundland's climate can best be described as moderate and maritime. The island enjoys winters that are surprisingly mild by Canadian standards, though with a high rate of precipitation. Labrador, by comparison, has the cold winters and brief summers characteristic of the Canadian mid-North. The winter in Newfoundland is very cold and summer is mild. Waterproof clothing is worn throughout the year.
Culture
The province's present population of approximately 574,000 is largely descended from settlers from southwestern England and southern Ireland who immigrated to Newfoundland in the late 1700s and early 1800s. The pattern of settlement was determined by the fishing industry, a population distribution that has persisted to this day. The Avalon Peninsula and northeastern Newfoundland, the traditional base for the fisheries, are the most heavily populated areas. Industry
Newfoundland and Labrador are highly dependent on the resource sector. The province was initially settled because of its rich fishing grounds on the Grand Banks. The mainstay of the province's fishing industry has been groundfish (primarily cod); however, other important catches are flounder, redfish, capelin, shrimp and crab. The second facet of the provincial economy is mining. This industry ships mineral products valued at approximately $700 million a year, mostly iron ore from Labrador. Other minerals mined in the province are gold, asbestos, lime stone and gypsum. In 1994, a major discovery of nickel, copper and cobalt was made at Voisey Bay and a significant development project is now under way.

Winner of the Association of American Publishers' Professional and Scholarly Publishing Award for Architecture and Urban Studies "A monument of scholarly publishing, this three-volume work is the first thorough history of its subject... Comprehensive and detailed, it examines in unusually brisk and intelligent prose, and with more than 4,000 aptly chosen illustrations the public and private buildings; the forts and harbors; the squares and greens; and the gardens and landscapes of the New World... A remarkable work of both art history and social history, these volumes keenly assess the aesthetic triumphs of town planning and landscape design... but they also reveal how structures and designs reflected North America's disparate cultural, environmental, and religious characteristics... Thank God for university presses; these beautiful books are of lasting importance."

I am a geography graduate of St John's College, Cambridge and went on to Leicester to take my PhD. I came to Queen's in 1976 as a lecturer, and am now a Senior Lecturer. I am a human geographer with interests in settlement, including historical settlements. At present I am course co-ordinator for our Level 1 Human Geography course (210GGY105) and give a Level 3 course entitled 'Aspects of urban development' (210GGY307). I have researched extensively on Ireland and have been President of the Geographical Society of Ireland and the Ulster Society for Irish Historical Studies. I represent Ireland on the Council of British Geography and also serve on the (Irish) National Committee for Geography. I have taught in both Canada and the USA and this interest is reflected in my jointly edited book, North America, and in my being Co-Director of Queen's University's Centre of Canadian Studies, which is housed in the School of Geography.
I have for decades worked for what is now the Northern Ireland Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA). I have also linked into the schools sector in my work for the Geographical Association (I have been President of the Belfast Branch) and for Geography Review, on the board of which I serve as Senior Examiner Advisor. Most recently, I have become a Member of the Institute of Learning and Teaching.

It is composed of ten provinces and three territories. It is bounded on the western edge by the Pacific Ocean, on the northern edge by the Arctic Ocean, on the eastern edge by the Atlantic Ocean, and on the southern edge by the United States of America (USA) . The edge running between countries is called a "border". In Canada, the country of the United States of America (U.S.A.) is either called "the States" (as in "We're going to the States for the weekend") or "the U.S." (as in "There's no public health care in the U.S."). If you want to enrage a Canadian then go ahead and refer to the States as "America". After all, Canada is in North America and so is Mexico A popular symbol of Canada is the mountie. A mountie is a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (R.C.M.P.). Their fancy dress uniform is brilliant red as illustrated in the photo taken on Parliament Hill, Ottawa on Canada Day. Canada Day is July 1st and is Canada's birthday. It used to be called Dominion Day.
