Temple University
Programs of Study The Center offers an alternative approach to the conventional method for preparing vocational teachers called field-based, performance-based teacher education (F/PBTE). With F/PBTE, the classroom at the school where the vocational intern teacher is employed (inservice teacher) or assigned (pre-service teacher) becomes the site for delivery of the program. Consequently, travel to a university or university center to obtain vocational professional credit is greatly reduced. Vocational teachers are required to demonstrate occupational/technical proficiency on a nationally standardized Occupational Competency Examination , and to complete 60 semester hours of the Pennsylvania Department of Education's approved university program. A plan of studies will be tailored to each student's unique background and professional needs. Recent studies indicate there will be a shortage of certified teachers in the province of Ontario and throughout Canada in the next five to ten years. Conservative estimates place the shortfall of Ontario teachers at 10,000 by the end of the decade. Each year, Ontario Faculties of Education receives several thousand more applications for its teacher training spaces than available. To address both the teacher shortage and the limited number of teacher training spaces, Gannon University has developed the Secondary Teacher Education Program for Canadians. The program is designed for students who want to teach grades 7-12. Why is Gannon the Right Place for Canadian Students?
    • At Gannon, you can take additional courses outside the education curriculum.
    • You may pursue a Master's degree.
