What should I take before I get to Tech?
Your high school background should be the same as we require of our freshmen. If you didn't take all these courses in high school (for instance, if you didn't take all the math), we recommend you try to take the equivalent at your two-year college before you come to Tech.
  • English at least 4 units, with one unit earned in composition at the junior or senior level
  • Science at least 2 units, with laboratories, chosen from among biology, physics, chemistry, and earth sciences
  • Math at least 3 units, chosen from among Algebra I, Algebra II, geometry, trigonometry, or higher mathematics
  • Social Science at least 3 units, one of which must be history
In order to graduate from Tech, you need to satisfy our General Degree Requirements . Many of these courses are necessary prerequsites for most of our junior and senior-level courses! The more of these college courses you can finish with passing grades before you come to Tech, the sooner you can begin to take our junior and senior courses.

New Mexico Task Force for School Libraries
January, 2001 INTRODUCTION: “The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think – rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with the thoughts of other men.”
- James Beattie VISION The vision of the New Mexico School Libraries Task Force is that every student in New Mexico schools (K-12) will (1) be supported by quality library services, collections, and programs, and (2) will be able to use information, materials, and media effectively for his/her own learning needs. PURPOSE The purpose of this document is to outline standards for New Mexico school library media programs which have been developed by the New Mexico Task Force for School Libraries over the last year, 1999-2000. Because these standards include quantitative measures, they are offered to provide useful, concrete guidelines for schools and school districts whose aim is to improve the quality of their school library media programs.

31. General Legislative Provisions For Students With Disabilities
general Legislative Provisions. school statutes in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Michigan, new Jersey, and new mexico require charter schools to comply
http://www.ed.gov/pubs/chartlegis/part1.html
Review of Charter School Legislation Provisions Related to Students with Disabilities, September 1998
General Legislative Provisions
This first part of the review examines statutory provisions that have implications for, but do not necessarily address directly, students with disabilities or special education. Various provisions in state statutes grant charter schools varying levels of authority to govern themselves and to make decisions regarding the operation of the schools, including decisions related to personnel, curriculum, and expenditures. The extent of a charter school's operational autonomy will have an impact on how special education programs are implemented in these schools. As described in the following paragraphs, statutory provisions that give higher levels of autonomy include ones that allow or require charter schools to (1) operate independent from local school districts, (2) make their own personnel decisions, (3) be exempt from state and district education laws and regulations, (4) assume liability for their actions, and (5) receive their funding directly from the state. Independence from districts.

COMMUNITIES In the years since its inception, Tree New Mexico has provided trees and brought educational programs to more than 135 communities in New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona. We are committed to outreach and partnership, working with communities regardless of their size or location. Although many small communities lack the resources and technical expertise needed to establish and maintain formal community forestry programs, they do have the inspiration, volunteers, and commitment to plant and maintain trees in parks, open spaces, along streets, and in other greenspaces. FEDERAL and STATE PUBLIC LANDS Tree New Mexico provides trees and volunteer services to national forests, state parks, wildlife preserves, state monuments, etc. Our conservation efforts include replanting burn sites; restoring riparian zones along rivers, lakes, wetlands, and streams; and reclaiming lands damaged by over-grazing, often working with ranchers to rotate herds so that neither the environment nor the family business is lost. SCHOOLS Tree New Mexico has worked with school groups and students of all ages since it was founded in 1990. To date, more than 7,000 students from 173 schools in 47 communities in New Mexico and Arizona have participated in our classroom sessions and activities. TNM provides guest teachers who give environmental education presentations based on trees and ecosystems; learning activities that engage children's interest; appropriate educational materials to leave with each classroom; and trees for the school campus.

TO RURAL NEW MEXICO AND ARIZONA SCHOOLS
Anchorage, AK -

General Communication, Inc. (GCI), an Alaska-based integrated telecommunications provider, announced today that it has signed a multi-year contract to provide Internet access to these schools via its SchoolAccess® program. The agreement will allow the schools to take advantage of on-line educational resources by using the company's high-speed satellite network to deliver high bandwidth Internet service. GCI will provide e-mail, web hosting, security, network optimization, network management and content filtering services to deliver a comprehensive technology solution for school districts. "SchoolAccess is committed to working with rural districts in the Southwest where challenges to providing broadband connectivity are most pervasive," said Martin Cary, GCI vice president of broadband services. "SchoolAccess is partnering with these districts to help them close the 'Digital Divide' and prepare their students for the 21st Century."
