The Globe and Mail Boom or Bust The Atlantic Provinces only want what's supposed to be coming to them, says former cabinet minister JOHN CROSBIE . Are you listening, Mr. Chretien? When Nova Scotia Premier John Hamm launched his campaign to get Ottawa to accept Atlantic Canada's claim to be the beneficiary of its offshore resources, many people labelled him a crank. But the merits and principles of Premier Hamm's case are finally being recognised. This is not about changing the national equalisation formula to squeeze more funds out of the federal treasury, or to have a better deal than other equalisationreceiving provinces. It is not about wanting more health or education transfers. It is not about special handouts for economic development. The case for offshore fiscal fairness is about honouring agreements entered into by both Liberal and Progressive Conservative governments of Canada agreements spelling out that the Atlantic Provinces were to be the "principal beneficiary" of offshore wealth. That intent was clearly stated in speeches by prime ministers Pierre Trudeau and Brian Mulroney; by Jean Chretien, when he was energy and mines minister; and by myself as minister of finance and later minister of justice. More importantly, the intent is embedded in various agreements of the federal and provincial governments of the day. Currently, the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia receive approximately 20 cents of every offshore revenue dollar, while the government of Canada receives 80 cents, including federal corporate income taxes. This is hardly the “principal beneficiary” outcome that had been promised.

http://www.mun.ca/munalum/intro.html
Y our affiliation with Memorial University of Newfoundland continues well after Convocation. In fact, graduation signifies that all-important time in one's life when the title of student is exchanged for that of alumnus/a and member of the Alumni Association of Memorial University of Newfoundland. All former students of Memorial University and its predecessors - Memorial University College and the Normal School - are automatically life members of the Memorial University of Newfoundland Alumni Association. Your membership card represents your membership in the association and is your passport to many services and privileges. You can stay involved with Memorial by participating in the election of six association members to the Board of Regents, the chief policy-making and governing body of the university. Alumni are also elected to the executive committee of the association, which determines the programs and policies of the Memorial Alumni Association. Independently, alumni are encouraged to contribute to the continuing development of the university through fundraising efforts, student recruitment, chapter involvement and other volunteer work.

= Baseops Pick - a Hotel taking top honors, great service and facilities for crew dogs. Anchorage, Alaska - The summer is sweet. The base is spread out so get a U-drive from AMCC or get a rental. No U-Drives for AMC crews less than 24 hrs on the ground. We got horrible support from the base (since it's PACAF). The aircrew billeting is barely within walking distance of the shoppette. Northstar Inn is a decent hotel. The BX and Commissary is shared with Ft Richardson and sits between the two on the other side of the flight line. While the F-15s are flying, good luck trying to sleep (STAY OFF BASE IF POSSIBLE!). Downtown is pretty cool with plenty of restaurants. Make sure you hit any of the following places: Humpy's (order the Halibut Tacos), Snow Goose (excellent brews and on the water), Moose's Tooth (excellent pizza and beer)

Introduction
Pigs require large amounts of energy and protein for fast growth and efficient feed utilization (NRC 1998). In many tropical countries grains are scarce and cannot be spared for feeding to pigs. However, the tropical areas of the world can provide many high-energy yielding crops for feeding pigs with evident advantage over conventional crops from temperate countries (Gohl 1981; Perez 1997). Thus crops include sugar cane, oil palm, cassava roots and rice products. Nevertheless, protein is the most expensive ingredient of pig diets, perhaps due to the fact that protein source availability is not evident. In this connection, very successful reports have not been made related to studies conducted with tropical, locally available protein sources for pigs.
