Painting Your Subconscious
The term Abstract Expressionism was first used in conjunction with Wassily Kandinsky in 1919 but is most commonly associated with postwar American art. It was coined by American art critic Robert Coates to describe the style of Gorky, Pollock and de Kooning but by 1951 it had become a generic term to describe all types of non-geometric abstraction. There were two distinct groups within the movement: Color-Field artists, such as Rothko, Newman and Still, used simple, unified blocks of color while gestural painters like Pollock, de Kooning used bold visible brushstrokes or techniques to automatically create art such as Pollock's paint dripping methods.

They were also influenced by Existentialist ideas which emphasized the act of creating, not the importance of the finished product. They sought to express their subconscious through their art and shared an interest of Jung's ideas of myth, ritual and memory.

Guide Picks - Top Tools for French/English Translators Maybe more than anyone else, translators need good tools. Some of them are obvious (like dictionaries), but others may be less so to inexperienced or untrained translators. Here is a list of the translation books without which I simply could not work. This list is for French-English and English-French translators, but can easily be adapted for other language combinations. Le Petit Robert
With the notable exception of Le Grand Robert (a veritable encyclopedia of the French language), Le Petit Robert is indisputably the best French dictionary, with nearly 60,000 entries. The new dollar coin replaced the Susan B. Anthony (SBA) dollar coin, which had circulated since 1979. Because demand had increased for a dollar coin in commerce, the government's supply of SBA dollars was nearly exhausted, creating a need for a new dollar coin that would be easily distinguishable from other change. Ever wanted to know where the dollar sign originated The United States Dollar Coin Act of 1997 required the Treasury Department to place into circulation a new dollar coin similar in size to the Susan B. Anthony dollar coin, golden in color with a distinctive edge. The law required the Treasury Secretary, in consultation with Congress, to select the designs for both sides of the new coin, although the design on the tails (reverse) side is required under the statute to depict an eagle. Advertising - English for Special Purposes Core Vocabulary The use of this lexical approach is essential for successful language acquisition in English for Specific Purposes. However, teachers are often not equipped with the exact English terminology required in very specific trade sectors. For this reason, core vocabulary sheets go a long way in helping teachers provide adequate materials for students with English for Special Purposes needs. These core vocabulary reference sheets provide between 150 and 240 key words and phrases for each industry. Each series is divided into three pages that, when combined, form an alphabetical list. In taking this lexical approach to attaining key vocabulary, students should be encouraged to translate the specific words and phrases into their native tongues as each phrase has a very specific translation in each language. advertisement - ad market coverage advertiser mass advertising advertising - publicity mass communication advertising agency mass media - media advertising agent media buyer advertising budget media buying

Gertrude Stein Women's Voices: Quotations by Women
Quote collection
assembled by Jone Johnson Lewis Most women's magazines simply try to mold women into bigger and better consumers. But the problem is that when I go around and speak on campuses, I still don't get young men standing up and saying, 'How can I combine career and family?' We know that we can do what men can do, but we still don't know that men can do what women can do. That's absolutely crucial. We can't go on doing two jobs. It takes a lot of time to be a genius, you have to sit around so much doing nothing, really doing nothing.
