DISPLAY HERALDS LIBRARIANS' WORK
HATTIESBURG, Miss. Barton Spencer hopes soon to join four other colleagues on the wall at the University of Southern Mississippi's Cook Library. Spencer, an information services librarian at USM's Cook Library, is currently serving as editor of Mississippi Libraries , the quarterly publication of the Mississippi Library Association. As editor of the publication, Spencer joins a distinguished group of four current and past USM librarians who have served as editor of the professional publication. Kay Wall, director of public services and special collections for Cook Library, thought it was time some attention was focused on the extra effort put forth by Spencer; current librarians Sherry Laughlin, Dr. Carol Cubberley and Sarah Armstrong; and former reference librarian Casey Phillips. "When you're editor of Mississippi Libraries , one of the distinguishing factors is the publication's cover," said Wall. "So we decided to do a display featuring covers designed by the librarians who are affiliated with USM to show what good work these people have done." An application process is required to become editor. The Mississippi Library Association supplements the publication's budget to help promote use of creativity on the cover, said Cubberley, director of technical services for the library and the Mississippi Libraries editor in 1991-92. "We have a tradition of having beautiful covers on
