Genealogy Resources Available at the University of Minnesota Libraries
While there is no collection or staff specifically dedicated to genealogy in the University Libraries, the approximately 5 million volumes, a nationally-acclaimed map library, several thousand newspapers, and well over a million government documents constitute a rich resource for genealogists. However, genealogists often come to Wilson Library with unrealistic expectations of what they will find and go away disappointed and frustrated. Much of your basic research should be completed before you come to the library. You will need to bring with you the correct spelling and spelling variations of individuals' names and place names (foreign characters, e.g

Recently, a volunteer on this list sent me the following note. Please read it and consider it carefully. Volunteers are precious resources that the genealogy community can not afford to abuse. I am no longer able to do lookups due to the volume of emails I receive for help not related to my resource. I have people emailing me to get them birth certificates, to offer general genealogy advice, to do tombstone rubbings () - all sorts of stuff thathas nothing to do with my resource. It is out of hand and I can't sit here going through my email weeding out this garbage every day. I have had it. I am very sorry, and I know I have helped several people and I am glad of it - but there are too many people out there who are emailing me inappropriately. Please remove my address from your site. Read this next!
I am not located in this area and have no resources myself. If something is not on the list, then I don't have access to it. Please read the list carefully. If you do not receive a response, consider that you may have asked for something to which the volunteer does not have access. Another good resource to try is
