This page organizes libraries by county. State libraries and cooperatives are listed above the counties. I'm sure I made some errors in listings, let me know. If you have the address and phone number and (hopefully) a web page for an unlisted public library let me know and I will add them to the appropriate county. Don't know where or what county, Check the Michigan Electronic Library The Michigan Electronic Library provides information resources for the citizens of the state of Michigan. The Internet Public Library Project seeks to challenge and redefine the roles and significance of libraries in an increasingly distributed and digital world. Libraries have always been places of learning and excitement, opening new worlds of information, enlightenment and entertainment to all who enter. Libraries and the people who work in them are committed to democracy and equality of access, the dignity of their patrons, and the freedom to express and investigate all points of view. The Library Network Member Directory Michigan Library Links The Library of Michigan 's mission is to promote, advocate, and consistently work to achieve the highest level of library service for the state legislature, public libraries and the citizens of Michigan.

The grants are part of the Foundation's Library Program, which is dedicated to partnering with public libraries to bring access to computers, the Internet, and digital information for patrons in low-income communities throughout the United States and Canada.
Nationally, a total of four rounds of funding will occur through 2003—the first round of grants went to libraries in seven states. Michigan and 11 other states make up the second round of funding, which began in 1999 and will continue through 2001.
The Foundation applied four eligibility standards to determine which libraries would receive cash grants to purchase computers, Internet access and training. Separately, Microsoft Corporation will donate software to all libraries receiving Foundation grants.
The eligibility requirements are: 1) The library building must be within a state that has been accepted for a State Partnership Grant Program 2) The library building must be a public library recognized by the state library agency as a public library 3) The library building must serve an area of greater than 10 percent poverty based on U.S. Census Department data from 1990. Libraries serving communities where less than 10 percent are below the poverty level can purchase computers at a discounted rate.

The State of Michigan also has a well-developed program, "Access Michigan", http://accessmichigan.org/ mailto:owner-liblicense-l@lists.yale.edu]On Behalf Of Sloan, Bernie Sent: Friday, April 20, 2001 6:33 PM To: 'web4lib@sunsite.berkeley.edu'; 'consort@ohiolink.edu'; PACS-L@LISTSERV.UH.EDU; 'liblicense-l@lists.yale.edu' Subject: Impact of statewide database deals? It's becoming relatively common lately for a state to provide central funding for access to full text databases for all the state's residents. Programs like LiLI in Idaho ( http://www.lili.org/ ), Pioneer in Utah ( http://pioneer.lib.ut.us/ ), Indiana's Inspire ( http://www.inspire-indiana.net/ ), and the Kentucky Virtual Library ( http://www.kyvl.org/ ) are just a few examples of such programs.
