Contact: Maureen Saxton 517-241-2236 Agency: History, Arts and Libraries Federal Grants Announced for Michigan Libraries December 11, 2001 The Library of Michigan today announced grant awards for the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) fiscal year 2002 grant program. The Library of Michigan is the state administrative agency for LSTA and as such, processes over $4.6 million annually to benefit Michigan libraries and the populations they serve. Twenty projects statewide will receive $1,452,683 in LSTA funding. Coupled with a 25 percent match requirement in the "collaboration and partnership" funding area, the total amount to be spent on these projects is $1,513,258. This cash match requirement leverages the LSTA dollars so that a greater number of local library projects may receive funding. Any remaining LSTA funds received by Michigan are spent on statewide projects such as AccessMichigan. Visit http://www.accessmichigan.org/ The LSTA program was enacted in September of 1996, as a continuation of the former Library Services and Construction Act. The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) administer the LSTA program on the federal level. The Library of Michigan is part of the Michigan Department of History, Arts and Libraries, whose mission is to enrich the quality of life for Michigan residents by providing access to information, preserving and promoting Michigan's heritage, and fostering cultural creativity.

Three Michigan Libraries Migrate from Gaylord Galaxy to Library.Solution
INWOOD, WV, August 12, 2002 -Three Michigan libraries have recently upgraded from the Gaylord Galaxy system to Library .Solution , The Library Corporation's (TLC's) integrated library system. Monroe County Library System in Monroe chose Library.Solution because "over the past few years we have watched our users become very technologically savvy," Monroe Director Nancy Colpaert said. "They will like the Library.Solution Windows platform and will love the functionality that allows for email messages to be sent letting them know an item they had reserved has arrived or that their materials are overdue," she said. "We're also anxious to see what our patrons think about the self-check-out units we're placing in our two largest branches. Staff who have had the opportunity to try out the software have found it to be very user-friendly and I think our patrons will too," Ms. Colpaert added. Ms. Colpaert said that TLC's reputation for providing state of the art library automation and Library.Solution's reasonable startup and ongoing costs were also important factors. Monroe has 16 sites and 500,000 volumes in its collection. The library has 151 stations on its network.
