Reminder - to qualify for the early registration discount deadline, both your registration form and payment must be postmarked by April 11, 2003. Since this deadline often causes problems for those using purchase orders please consider the following suggestions: 1. Mark your PO "check must accompany PO". 2. Include both the "early registration" price, the full price, and the payment deadline on your PO so that your business office remits the higher amount if there is a delay, or better yet notices the advantage of getting the check out early.
**Registration fees will remain the same as last year's conference ** For members - Individual

Thanks to all those at ALA who contributed to the development of the tool kit. http://www.ala.org/pio/csal_toolkit.html Coming Soon.... SLMS and the M.L.T.I. ME DOE Provides Curriculum Help Maine educators are striving to build local assessment systems a large and sometimes daunting task. The Maine Department of Education has two helpful initiatives available online: www.mainelad.org and www.maptasks,org
School librarians are urged to review these sites for two reasons:
  • There are MANY valuable lesson plans and already consturcted assessment tasks all geared to MLR . Impress your teachers when you point them towards specific just-in-time, unit-related material, AND
  • Library media center programs and resources are NOT well represented. Since the DOE is soliciting input, NOW is the time to let our voices be known. Send an email with specific, concrete suggestions of ways to involve the SLMS!

    The Maine Library Directory

Use this page to search for a library in Maine. But come back to MaineLibraries.com in April, when we will have a brand new search feature that will help you find what you're looking for at a library near you. There's something for everyone at Maine Libraries.
    The Maine InfoNet Statewide Catalog

InfoNet provides all citizens of Maine access to publications. Through this online search, you can read complete articles and conduct research for school, for business or for your family. This is a wonderful service that is offered by the state of Maine and is being promoted as part of the "Maine Libraries: Something for Everyone" campaign. So take a spin!
In addition, InfoNet Catalog combines and links library collections. When the system has reached design size, a single search will scan 10,000,000 items in more than 300 libraries. A built-in requesting and transaction management system allows patrons of libraries using a qualifying online system to make online interlibrary loan requests. Most libraries will be able to make requests on behalf of their users, as well.
    American Library Association

The American Library Association provides leadership for the development, promotion, and improvement of library and information services and the profession of librarianship in order to enhance learning and ensure access to information for all. ALA runs the "@ your library" campaign, with more information at

    CAMPAIGN RESOURCES FOR LIBRARIES

In Maine, there has never been a major statewide public awareness campaign focused on libraries. As a result, many people are unaware of the variety of resources and services libraries have to offer them. It is the intent of this campaign to unite Maine's diverse libraries by providing a clear, consistent message that offers reasons for people to use library services. Resources to take part in this campaign will be updated often, so please remember to come back and visit this web site. Join the campaign today and take advantage of the many resources available through this web site.

Located at the Maine Cultural Center, both have been granted additional support for extending and organizing their already diverse collections. Maine State Archives is the only central location in the state for vital records before 1892 and is the permanent "repository" for state documents. In addition it holds all census records, adjutant general's records, court records, Maine land office records, county marriage returns, and the updated microfilm collection of extant Maine town records.
The east wing of the building houses the Maine State Library with the largest collection of town histories and family genealogies in the state, microfilm holdings of newspapers, town reports after 1902, and the two collections of cemetery indexes.
