    Indiana Teacher Certification Requirements for the Major:
    To satisfy the requirements for teaching Theater as a major subject, the following courses are taken: Speech 3, 4A and B, 7, 9, 87 (Independent Study in Voice and Phonetics), 87 (Independent Study in Speech Science and Correction); Theater 2, 5, 11 or 12; English 13; and one full course credit from Theater 1, 3 (A, B, C, D), 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 13, 14, 17, 98; Speech 2, 6, 9. The Mathematics Major Requirements for the Major:
Nine courses, including Math 111, 112, 223, 224 or 225 (or both), 331 or 333 (or both), and 400, excluding Math 003, 107, and 109. At least one of Math 331 or 333 must be taken no later than the junior year. Students considering graduate work in mathematics should plan on taking most of the courses the department offers. The mathematics major at Wabash is a contract major. Each mathematics major will have a contract with the department describing his intended elected courses and a rationale for their selection. A student who intends to major in mathematics should discuss his plans with a member of the department and decide on a contract before registration for classes during the fall semester of his sophomore year. A student who decides to major in mathematics after this time should meet with a member of the department as soon as possible.

ALTERNATIVE ROUTES TO CERTIFICATION
The Alternative Routes to Certification (ARC) Program prepares individuals with degrees, Bachelor’s or more, outside of education, for Indiana teacher certification. ARC is an intensive program combining graduate courses and two semesters of internship, in the field of certification you have selected. The purpose of the program is to provide career changers with the knowledge and experience necessary to successfully enter the teaching profession as effective educators, and to provide schools and learners with competent, innovative, professional teachers. ARC is offered annually, when a sufficient cohort of qualified candidates are admitted. ARC programs are subject to change based on State, University or Division requirements. Partners/Participants: Centerville-Abington Schools, Northeastern Schools, Richmond Community Schools, College Corner/Union County Joint Schools Program Highlights SECONDARY EDUCATION (Middle/High School)

    Licensure Page Upon graduation from Taylor University with a degree in education, the following has occurred: 1) Completion of a teacher education program that is approved by NCATE (National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education) and the Indiana Professional Standards Board, and 2) all course requirements have been met for an Indiana Teachers License. Indiana Teachers License Recommendation for an Indiana Teachers License will be made following a successful period of student teaching, the completion of all teacher education program and Taylor University graduation requirements, the successful completion of the Praxis I: Academic Skills Assessments (reading, writing, and mathematics skills) and the Praxis II: Specialty Area Tests, and the completion of a teaching license application (State form #9331) including an original limited criminal history report. Testing Information As part of the Indiana teacher certification process, successful completion of the required Praxis I: Academic Skills Assessment Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST) in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics and Praxis II: Specialty Area test(s) is required. These tests are administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). Registration for the tests can be done by mail, online, or if a Praxis Series test has previously been taken, one can reregister by phone. To register by mail, a Registration Bulletin can be obtained from Professor Rebecca Moore (RC 113) on the Upland Campus or from Mrs. Linda Fritcha (Witmer Hall) on the Fort Wayne Campus.     Graduation Without Licensure This option can be considered only after students have completed all of their methods courses. (Students will continue to have the option of changing majors at any time either before or after they have completed their methods courses.) This option is available only to Education students who have not completed the 15 hours of student teaching and capstone either by choice or recommendation from the Division of Education. All other coursework must be completed. The 15 hours will be replaced with other courses based on career goals and selected in consultation with a Division of Education advisor. Students must sign an agreement to pursue this option that clearly states they do not intend to seek teacher licensing or certification. Should they wish to pursue licensing at a future date, they will also agree to follow degree and licensing requirements in effect at the time of their return.
    GRADUATION WITHOUT LICENSURE

If you are planning to move to another state, you should contact that state's certification office, as listed below. The number code following each entry indicates the types of testing which the state required at the time this information was published in the 1999 Job Search Hanbook. The key to the codes follows the state listing.
    When you write or call the state certification office, indicate the type of certificate you are receiving from your current state, which national tests you have taken, and ask for application materials and procedures for obtaining certification in the new state. Another source of information about certification requirements will be the actual districts to which you apply.
