The Area 6 LTH directly supports six Regional Offices of Education (ROE 02, ROE 12, ROE 20, ROE 21, ROE 25, and ROE 30). ROE 30 is the fiscal agent for the Area 6 LTH (staff is considered employees of ROE 30). ROE 12 is the administrative agent for the Associate Technology Center, an Area 6 LTH satellite office located 150 miles northeast of the main office. There are a total of 7 Learning Technology Hubs throughout the state. Each has a Curriculum Director, and a staff of technical and curriculum personnel. The Hubs work through the ROE's and ISC's in their area to provide technology and curriculum assistance to their region's school districts. Illinois State Board of Education All of the Area Hubs in Illinois are funded through the Learning Technologies Division of the Illinois State Board of Education. Beginning in 1995, the Illinois state government funded the Learning Technologies Division with $15 million. This initial funding created six Area Hubs, various grant programs, and other initiatives. In 1996, the Illinois state government funded the Learning Technologies Division with an additional $30 million. A seventh Area Hub and an Associate Technology Center in Area 6 were created, as well as many other initiatives. Shawnee Library System Shawnee Library System is part of the Illinois library system. Shawnee covers Southern Illinois. It's administrative offices are located across the street from John A. Logan College. The Area 6 LTH and Shawnee Library System cooperate on a variety of technology and education issues.

The UIC Graduate Fellows in K-12 Education (GK-12) program, supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation, offers an exciting opportunity to UIC graduate and undergraduate students in science, mathematics, and engineering. There are Fellowships for ten graduate students and five undergraduate students in return for working with teachers and schools that are implementing and developing new science and mathematics curricula. The goals of the program are to (1) foster an understanding among tomorrow's science, math, and engineering researchers of the opportunities and challenges of working with pre-college teachers and students and (2) provide teachers with an opportunity to enhance their understanding and skills in science, math, and technology through extended interaction with, and direct support from, the GK-12 Fellows. Each graduate fellowship offers an $18,000 stipend over 12 months; each undergraduate fellowship offers $5,000 over 9 months. A waiver of tuition accompanies the graduate fellowships. Who is involved Four UIC departments in three different colleges participate in the GK–12 program. The principal investigators are Donald Wink and Wade Freeman (Chemistry), Maria Varelas (Education), Tom Moher (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science), and Phil Wagreich (Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science).

Saying Thanks to Your Child's Teacher Saying thanks to your child's teacher can be as simple as writing a note or gathering many cards and drawings from the class. Read on to learn creative ways to express your appreciation. By GreatSchools.net Staff Teachers juggle many roles, from planning lessons to wiping runny noses. It's an exhausting job requiring knowledge of curriculum and standards as well as child psychology and discipline techniques. When you express your gratitude for all they do, you give teachers an important boost. You don't need to spend a lot of money on a gift for a teacher, but do avoid giving mugs or items with an apple motif as teachers get many of these every year. Here are some easy ideas to show teachers how much you appreciate their important work.
  • Display a banner outside the school saying thanks to the teachers.
  • Work with the students to create a class scrapbook or thank you book.
  • Bring in flowers, food or a festive cake for your teacher or for all the teachers in the school.
  • Ask local businesses to donate gift certificates to give to teachers. Teachers will especially appreciate gift certificates from educational supply stores, bookstores or restaurants.
