Visit our new commercial site at: www.shec-labs.com
Mission Statement
SHEC's mission is to provide to the world a source of clean renewable energy for the 21st century and beyond.
Background
Traditional methods of producing hydrogen have been to convert fossil fuels to hydrogen. This process creates extensive greenhouse gases in the conversion process, and has little benefit over burning the fossil fuels directly.
The Product:
SHEC has developed a process to produce hydrogen which does not create green house gases such as CO or CO2. It is "100% clean and 100% renewable" (TM). We use only water and sunlight as our only inputs into our proprietary process. The energy cycle is much like the oxygen cycle of plants and animals. Animals use oxygen, and give off CO2. Plants on the other hand use CO2 and give off Oxygen. The hydrogen energy cycle is very similar. Our process takes water and produces Hydrogen and Oxygen. The oxygen can be released to the atmosphere (or bottled and sold), while the hydrogen is used as fuel. When the hydrogen is burned, it takes oxygen from the atmosphere and creates heat, with its by-product being water.
The Market:
Other Benefits:
An area less than the size of North Dakota, has enough solar radiation to supply the entire energy needs of the United States. Reliance on imports of fossil fuels will be eliminated, and so will the cost of wars associated with it. The health benefits and preservation of our planet is of primary importance. Pollution of our atmosphere from the continual burning of fossil fuels have costs which are overlooked. These include health costs of respiratory related diseases caused by polluted air, and eventual costs of crop failures due to global warming.

Hydrogen is the third most abundant element on the earth's surface, where it is found primarily in water (H O) and organic compounds. It is generally produced from hydrocarbons or water; and when burned as a fuel, or converted to electricity, it joins with oxygen to again form water. More basic information about hydrogen energy is also available
Technologies
Production
Hydrogen is produced from sources such as natural gas, coal, gasoline, methanol, or biomass through the application of heat; from bacteria or algae through photosynthesis; or by using electricity or sunlight to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. Transport and Storage
The use of hydrogen as a fuel and energy carrier will require an infrastructure for safe and cost-effective hydrogen transport and storage. Fuel Cells
Hydrogen's potential use in fuel and energy applications includes powering vehicles, running turbines or fuel cells to produce electricity, and generating heat and electricity for buildings. The current focus is on hydrogen's use in fuel cells.
Issues
Safety
Hydrogen has an excellent safety record, and is as safe for transport, storage and use as many other fuels. Nevertheless, safety remains a top priority in all aspects of hydrogen energy. The hydrogen community addresses safety through stringent design and testing of

http://www.iahe.org/Hydrogen_energy_system.htm
HYDROGEN ENERGY SYSTEM: A PERMANENT SOLUTION TO GLOBAL PROBLEMS T. Nejat Veziroglu Clean Energy Research Institute University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL 33124, USA Summary: However, there are other energy systems proposed for the post-petroleum era, such as a synthetic fossil fuel system. In this system, synthetic gasoline and synthetic natural gas will be produced using abundant deposits of coal. In a way, this will ensure the continuation of the present fossil fuel system. The two possible energy systems for the post-fossil fuel era (i.e., solar hydrogen energy system and synthetic fossil fuel system) are compared with the present fossil fuel system by taking into consideration production costs, environmental damages and utilization efficiencies. The results indicate that the solar hydrogen energy system is the best energy system to ascertain a sustainable future. The paper is presented in a question/answer format. Question 1: What are the energy related global problems: Answer 1: Fossil fuels, which fed this amazing economic growth, were the medicine to cure deprivation. But it was an untested medicine at that. As planet Earth consumed more and more fossil fuels, two important predicaments started to emerge: (1) the fossil fuels would be depleted in a foreseeable future, and (2) the fossil fuels and their combustion products were causing global environmental problems.

Hydrogen is a clean and sustainable form of energy that can be used in mobile and stationary applications. Fuel cells harness the chemical energy of hydrogen to generate electricity without combustion or pollution. Codes and standards ensure the safe use of hydrogen and fuel cells. The vision of a new energy economy based on clean, renewable hydrogen is described in the National Hydrogen Energy Vision document (PDF 1 MB) Although we have a vision for a hydrogen economy , changing the way we produce and use energy is not a simple or overnight task. The National Hydrogen Energy Roadmap (PDF 2 MB) outlines the challenges we face and suggests a path forward to achieve the promise of hydrogen and fuel cells. The first steps toward the hydrogen future are already underway. The

Device ups hydrogen energy from sunlight
Peter Weiss Here's a recipe for a cleaner, healthier planet: Take some water, add solar energy, extract hydrogen, and use it to power fuel cells for running cars and other machines. Then, collect their water emissions and start the procedure again. One look at the list of ingredients in today's fuel cells, however, shows that this ideal isn't yet being followed. Because processes that use sunlight to extract hydrogen remain costly and inefficient, fossil fuels still supply the hydrogen in most fuel cells. Hoping to break the fossil fuel habit, a team of Israeli, German, and Japanese scientists has created a device that boosts the efficiency of solar-powered hydrogen extraction by 50 percent. The group placed a photovoltaic cell on top of two flat, finger-long electrodes. The combination "is very efficient in converting solar energy [into an electric current] but also provides nearly the ideal voltage for splitting water" into hydrogen and oxygen, says team leader Stuart Licht of the Technion in Haifa, Israel. A water molecule splits, or undergoes electrolysis, at only 1.23 volts. Licht and his colleagues describe their device in the Sept. 14
