go to top GEO 455 Natural Resource Economics This course deals with all major areas of natural resource (renewable and non-renewable) economics. It has been structured to achieve a balance of theory, applications and examples. Applied welfare economics is used as an organizing principle. A careful distinction is drawn between the concepts of efficiency and optimality and the students are shown how efficient outcomes are not necessarily desirable outcomes. The very long run is given proper attention, particularly within the concept of sustainability, elucidating and comparing rival concepts, and linking it to developments in ecology and the physical sciences. The analysis of natural resource allocation choices will be presented within the frameworks of various growth theory concepts. This allows the students to pay due attention to the consequences of population change, resource substitutability, and technological progress. go to top GEO 593 Regional Economics and Policy The Regional Economics portion of the course covers the following topics: patterns and factors of regional disparities, measurement of regional incomes, disposable regional income, classical and modern location theories, Weber's location theory, Isard's space economy, Hoteling's linear-city, regional development theories with or without increasing disparities, growth pole theory, Myrdal's cumulative causation, radical theories, neoclassical models of regional development, interregional trade and migration, and technological progress in spatial processes.

    History
It is important to distinguish between present-day Austria and the Austrian and Austro-Hungarian Empire of the past. Many "Austian" towns and provinces are no longer part of Austria and many probably bear different names today. If you are not sure, check using any of the fine place finder resources. In some cases provinces have been re-defined or split amongst different countries. The following table illustrates a few (simplified) examples of such changes: German name English name Native name Now in . . . Krain Carniola Krajina mainly Slovenia Kroatien Croatia Hrvatska mainly Croatia Veneto Veneto Veneto Italy Schlesien Silesia Poland and Czech Republic Galizien Galicia mainly Poland Moravia mainly Czech Republic Bohemia Czech Republic Transylvania Romania Untersteiermark Lower-Styria Slovenia South Tyrol Italy For more detailed information see:
