    Introduction
Style manuals have evolved from early printers' manuals into tools for authors, editors, and students. They range from general style manuals to those intended for use within a specific discipline, or even within the pages of a single journal. Most style manuals contain much more than examples of footnotes and bibliographies. Advice on grammar and punctuation, tips on conducting research, and recommendations on the appearance of the finished paper are commonly found. Thus, the distinction between the style manual and the writing guide can be subtle. Included in the following list are all-purpose style manuals, specialized manuals, bibliographies which may be consulted in order to locate additional manuals, and several guides to term paper writing and manuscript preparation.

    • Probably the #1 rule is that you should not use "Click here" to point to a document. Keep in mind that not everyone can "click" (e.g., some people are using non-graphic browsers) and also consider that you or someone else might ever print out the document and on paper, "click here" just seems silly :-) Therefore, it is best if the text of the link actually has something to do with the content. It also makes bookmarks/hotlinks work much better.

Citation Style Guides for Internet and Electronic Sources
    Introduction
Internet and electronic information, with no print equivalents, presents new challenges to scholars. Increasingly information is being published only in electronic formats, and questions about how to cite these sources in academic papers have become frequent at library reference desks. Although a definitive standard for the citation of these resources has yet to emerge, there are now several printed guides and Internet sites which can provide guidance. This guide provides references to these sources. This guide is written for students at the University of Alberta and is not meant to be definitive. Comments are very welcome.
