An Informal History of a Rural Baha'i Community
The history of the Baha'i faith has tended to focus on prominent individuals, and large national communities. The few local histories that exist are of old, relatively large and well-established communities. What I'm attempting to do here is tell a small, local story - typical in some ways, atypical in others. It is, after all, the local experience that impacts the life of the individual Baha'i the most, and that experience is very often overlooked. This history is based upon my own personal experiences: my memory, notes I took through the years, stories I've been told by local Baha'is, and information I gleaned when I was Secretary of an LSA (1985-87). It is impossible to tell the story without referring to individuals, by to protect their privacy, any names I use will be invented. For the same reason, I will not reveal the location of the county. The reader should also note that all of the people I mention are multi-dimensional human beings, some of whom I've known over a long period of time. In this paper I criticize some of their actions, but I am also aware that every one I mention here is, in his or her own way, a lover of Baha'u'llah that did the best they knew how. The County's population was between 40,000 and 50,000 during the period from 1970 to the present. The City currently has a population of 13,000. There are also tow smaller incorporated cities of 8,000 and 400. Neither of them developed a Baha'i community of any kind, but each was home to an "isolated believer", including myself. The County was also divided into two judicial districts initially, which was changed into one municipal court district by state proposition in 1994. The localities important to this story are the largest city, and the unincorporated area immediately surrounding it the JD community.

http://www.uncc.edu/colleges/arts_and_sciences/history/handbook.htm
HISTORY MAJOR HANDBOOK Welcome Careers for Majors The study of history is an ideal undergraduate major because it emphasizes the essential intellectual skills of critical thinking, research, writing and speaking. While history majors often go into professions like law and medicine, many go into a wide variety of jobs in the business worldfrom sales or communications to research and administration. The most popular history-related field that majors enter is teaching, and the Department of History offers a secondary education teacher-licensure program in cooperation with the Department of Middle, Secondary, and K-12 Education in the College of Education. (Students seeking certification to teach history and social studies in grades 9-12 should also obtain the teacher certification addendum that outlines the additional requirements.) Other opportunities include training for work in historical preservation and museums. Brought together under the umbrella of ‘Public History’ this is a growing field which offers a range of employment prospects to qualified graduates. More generally, an undergraduate degree in History prepares students for a wide range of careers in business, government, and public sector organizations, and it also is an ideal foundation for many graduate programs such as Law School. The History Curriculum The primary focus of the History Department’s curriculum is developing skills rather than imparting a specific body of knowledge. These skills are not only important for aspiring historians, but to any student for whom reading, writing, and analysis will play an important part in his or her career. In particular, the department values the abilities to link the specific and the general, to understand the relationships between cause and effect in social systems, to conceptualize and carry out in-depth research, to interpret the arguments of others, and to write well-structured, well argued essays. A secondary focus of the History Department’s curriculum is to broaden students’ horizons by making them study societies other than their own, for some sense of how other societies are different is essential in the increasingly global world in which we live.

Latina Christiana is geared toward younger students. In Level I, it explains the first three declensions and present, preterite and future verb conjugations. The teacher’s guide is essential. There's nothing wrong with this program, it's just not as extensive as the other two. I would recommend this for someone who wants a taste of Latin, but doesn't necessarily care to master the language.
Artes Latinae
is very expensive, but it’s the best. It uses a method of very tiny increments to teach. Good built-in review.
Latin is Fun , from AMSCO, follows the same methodology as the other "FUN" books. I liked the fact that this book is a workbook. Writing is an essential part to learning a language. The vocabulary offered is good. The grammar is introduced slowly, and is
KONOS Latin is included with Highschool History of the World Vl. II, when the middle Ages and Rome are studied. It’s not supposed to be a complete Latin program and it’s not. A useful primer, though.
History
KONOS History of the World was my history program in 9th and 10th grade. It is not a text book, rather a weekly guide for studying history. There are 10-30 activities each week. You choose how many you want to do. Instead of imparting perconceived biases onto the student, which a textbook will inevitably do, KONOS gives helpful direction. Most of the information is obtained from library books and the encyclopedia. As with anything in life, you get out what you put in. This course is flexible. For some, it could be an unschooling “curriculum,” and for others, a strict, day by day lesson plan.

The Annual Hispanic Youth Day is held at the University Center on the campus of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, every year in the month of April. The purpose of this program is to increase Hispanic high school sophomore's level of awareness regarding career alternatives/selection, post-secondary educational opportunities, available financial aid, and scholarships. On an average, the number of students, parents, school counselors, and community representatives involved range between 200-300.
The Ninth Annual Hispanic Youth Day was held on Friday,April 25, 1997. Two hundred and eighty-eight(288) students participated this year from 31 Metropolitan high schools. To view a listing of the participating schools and the number of students who attended this program. Click Here

STATUE OF LIBERTY Statue of Liberty History The Statue of Liberty National Monument officially celebrated her 100th birthday on October 28, 1986. The people of France gave the Statue to the people of the United States over one hundred years ago in recognition of the friendship established during the American Revolution. Over the years, the Statue of Liberty has grown to include freedom and democracy as well as this international friendship. Sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi was commissioned to design a sculpture with the year 1876 in mind for completion, to commemorate the centennial of the American Declaration of Independence. The Statue was a joint effort between America and France and it was agreed upon that the American people were to build the pedestal, and the French people were responsible for the Statue and its assembly here in the United States. However, lack of funds was a problem on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. In France, public fees, various forms of entertainment, and a lottery were among the methods used to raise funds. In the United States, benefit theatrical events, art exhibitions, auctions and prize fights assisted in providing needed funds. Meanwhile in France, Bartholdi required the assistance of an engineer to address structural issues associated with designing such as colossal copper sculpture. Alexandre Gustave Eiffel (designer of the Eiffel Tower) was commissioned to design the massive iron pylon and secondary skeletal framework which allows the Statue's copper skin to move independently yet stand upright. Back in America, fund raising for the pedestal was going particularly slowly, so Joseph Pulitzer (noted for the Pulitzer Prize) opened up the editorial pages of his newspaper, "The World" to support the fund raising effort. Pulitzer used his newspaper to criticize both the rich who had failed to finance the pedestal construction and the middle class who were content to rely upon the wealthy to provide the funds. Pulitzer's campaign of harsh criticism was successful in motivating the people of America to donate.

9-24-99/Persuasive Religion in Public Schools Should religion be taught or promoted in public schools? There has been controversy over this question for several years. Many people believe students should be able to learn about religion in school, while others say it would be offensive to those who do not believe in the religion being taught. However, I believe that public schools should teach at least one religion section a week, post the Ten Commandments, and promote prayer in the classroom.
I believe that religion in public schools is definitely a good thing to provide for students. It would be very beneficial to all that participate, and those who do not participate are not affected by it at all. I think that having religion taught in public schools would also reduce crime and violence, and it would also be a very good influence for the students. All in all, students should be taught one religion section per week, the Ten Commandments should be posted in the classroom, and prayer should be promoted in public schools.
