Morgan, and like tens of thousands of other people I enjoy hang gliding as a hobby. I have learned of recent regulations addressing non-discrimination in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Please enter my comments into the public record for this rulemaking. I understand that Congress originally intended that no employer nor group health insurer could exclude my participation in group health insurance based on my participation in legal recreational activities like hang gliding. I applaud that intent and support that aspect of the new regulations. However, the new rules would also allow an employer or group health insurer to deny medical coverage for injuries I may receive while hang gliding, or participating in many other legal recreational activities. I am adamantly opposed to this provision. This regulation could place an unimaginable burden on my family and me.
