What was it that they discovered?
Through their medical research both doctors found that there is very definite periodicity or rhythms in our lives. Their discoveries determined that we are affected by these rhythms physiologically, emotionally and intellectually.
To this day a great number of studies are still being done regarding the affects of biorhythm on the human condition.
Although biorhythms are not an exact science, the fathers of biorhythm theory have established the fact that they do exist. The research that I have done and the data that I have accumulated and continue to accumulate weren’t based upon medical studies. My interest in biorhythms lie in two areas: The recurrence of specific performance in sports and instances of unusual or remarkable luck. The bulk of my studies has been involved with the emotional cycle since I believe that this is the primary cycle for determining success in business, sports, and luck.
For biorhythms to exist some form of energy must be present within all of us. One form of energy that occurs in cycles is electricity. Biorhythms appear to be affected by “electrical” energy within our bodies. Our bodies and each cell within it have an electrical charge, indeed, even the molecules and atoms of which our bodies consist have positive and negative charges. Scientists tell us that our bodies are essentially large batteries. This supports the hypotheses which indicate the involvement of energy for the existence of biorhythm. If we accept the fact that our bodies must generate energy to function, then it follows that there are periods in which we recharge, we are fully charged and we deplete our energies.

The Movie:
I think there's only been one golf picture that I've really found quite entertaining, and that's Kevin Costner's "Tin Cup", an electric little comedy that offered one of the star's most engaging performances. Although "The Legend Of Bagger Vance" is a fine attempt by director Robert Redford to make a dramatic picture out of the game, it often goes through the story at such a relaxed pace as to make golf even slower than it usually appears on television games.
The story revolves around one Rannoulph Junuh(Matt Damon), a golfer who was formerly known as one of the best in the South. His former girlfriend Adele(Charlize Theron) has inherited not only a massive golf course but quite a heavy debt. Instead of selling off the course, she puts together a match between two of the greatest golfers Bobby Jones (Joel Gretsch) and Walter Hagen (Bruce McGill). Although Junuh is originally not going to play, scarred by the war, he finds a kind soul in Bagger Vance (Will Smith), a man who seems to appear out of the fields one night to help Junuh "find his swing" that he's lost. The town wants a local in the match, and eventually, he's convinced to join in.
There's a good deal to like about the film, but there's more than a few complaints about the picture that I had. The characters aren't terribly well written, and although I never have read the novel on which the film is based, the filmed version never really lets us get any real detail to the intentions and backgrounds of the characters. This is particularly apparent in Theron's Adele, and even somewhat in Damon's Junuh. The film needs more weight, a little more intensity and energy. I can certainly understand the whole "mystical" nature of golf, such as the mystical nature of baseball that was covered in "Field Of Dreams", but that "mystical" nature has to be lifted every so often.

Noise-produced home field advantage must yield to fair play
"With ticket prices rising and perhaps the attention span of America's youth dropping, game-day directors" are challenged "to put an entertaining product on the field as well as a team on the field." But until the NFL adopted new noise restrictions, some teams went over the top in their use of artificial and club-controlled noise more to achieve "homefield advantage" than to entertain spectators. In a poll on whether readers were glad or sad that the NFL is limiting noise during the game, 58 percent responded they were sad because the restriction ruined homefield advantage. Readers were not asked about the sportsmanship angle. See " Noise busters: NFL cracks down on music, sound effects ," Ken Sugiura, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution , September 15, 2002.
Chaos, yes, but cheating and corruption? Maybe not
Writes David Wharton of The Los Angeles Times: "Thirty years have done little to cool the still-smoldering U.S.-Soviet Olympic basketball controversy, and American players are still doing a slow burn about the chaotic ending to the gold-medal game." But Robert Edelman, a lifelong basketball fan and a professor of Russian history at UC San Diego, takes a clinical approach. He says, "The thing that bothers me as a historian is this idea of the United States being cheated has lived on and has never been challenged with any kind of research. For his take and more insight on this long-simmering tumult, see "

The Legend of Bagger Vance
All movie guide rating: 2½ out of 5 stars The Legend of Bagger Vance doesn't break any new ground, but with Steven Pressfield's inspirational novel to guide them, director Robert Redford and screenwriter Jeremy Leven have tilled fertile soil with a graceful touch. Redford does for golf what A River Runs Through It did for fly-fishing: the sport is a conduit for a philosophy of living, and Redford achieves the small miracle of making golf a central metaphor that's visually compelling. Set in Savannah, Georgia, during the early '30s, the story charts the redemption of disillusioned World War I veteran and former golf champion Rannulph Junuh (Matt Damon), who emerges from self-imposed obscurity in an exhibition match against legendary golfers Bobby Jones (Joel Gretsch) and Walter Hagen (Bruce McGill). Having earlier abandoned the socialite (Charlize Theron) who has organized the tournament to promote her late father's spectacular golf resort, Junuh now depends on the support of a young fan (perfectly cast newcomer J. Michael Moncrief) and the mysterious Bagger Vance (Will Smith), a smiling Jiminy Cricket who serves as Junuh's caddy, golf guru, and Socratic angel of mercy. As Junuh regains the "authentic swing" he feared was lost forever, Redford guides his splendid cast through a spiritual journey that is specific to the discipline of golf and yet potently universal. As always, Redford also conveys his respect for nature and the rhythms of life as well as a sweet nostalgia for simpler times and purer values. With the casting of Jack Lemmon as the film's present-day narrator and elderly version of Moncrief's character, The Legend of Bagger Vance gains even greater dignity and, indeed, the glowing aura of legend. July 2001 Edition SRC examines impact of climate change upon province’s forests The biggest threat to Saskatchewan forests is not logging, forest fires or urban development. It’s climate change, says Dr. Mark Johnston, a senior scientist with the Environment Branch of the Saskatchewan Research Council. Johnston heads the SRC’s Forest Ecology program. He brings to the position an extensive background in forestry and forest ecology. Johnston has advanced degrees from universities in Canada and the United States, and has worked in Australia, Britain, the United States and three Canadian provinces. PREPARING OUR FORESTS FOR CLIMATE CHANGE The primary focus of Johnston’s research is the impact of climate change upon the boreal forest. “We’ve identified three major areas of impact. The most obvious one is that it’s likely to get warmer and drier, so the southern boundary of Saskatchewan’s forest will probably be subject to increasing moisture stress,” says Johnston. “Moisture stress isn’t only an impact by itself, but is also interrelated to other things, such as increased susceptibility to insect epidemics. So the second area of impact will be insect infestation.”
