Grace Death of Ellenton
THE FOGGY DEW (revolutionary) Ireland
Easter 1916 Dublin Ireland uprising. Ireland rebellion against the draft in what they felt was England's war, not Ireland's. 'Twas down the glen one Easter morn
To a city fair rode I.
When Ireland's line of marching men
In squadrons passed me by.
No pipe did hum, no battle drum
 Did sound its dread tattoo
But the Angelus bell o'er the Liffey's swell
Rang out in the foggy dew. Right proudly high over Dublin town
They hung out a flag of war.
'Twas better to die 'neath an Irish sky
Than at Suvla or Sud el Bar.  And from the plains of Royal Meath  Strong men came hurrying through;  While Brittania's sons with their long-range guns  Sailed in from the foggy dew. 'Twas England bade our wild geese go That small nations might be free. Their lonely graves are by Suvla's waves On the fringe of the grey North Sea.  But had they died by Pearse's side  Or fought with Valera true,  Their graves we'd keep where the Fenians sleep  'Neath the hills of the foggy dew. The bravest fell, and the solemn bell

Larry Rice A Combination Of Talents
W hat does it take to be a legendary figure in bluegrass music? Consider some of Larry Rice's qualifications: A founding member of the Kentucky Mountain Boys (later renamed J.D. Crowe And the New South), one of bluegrass music's premeire acts of all time. Larry is considered one of the world's preeminent mandolin players, and has co-authored several instructional books on mandolin playing. In addition, Larry Rice has achieved acclaim as one of bluegrass music's finest contemporary songwriters.
F rom Florida to California, from Europe to Japan, Larry Rice has amassed a legion of dedicated followers, dating back to his days with J.D. Crowe. A recording session for the Rebel label in 1985 ended a decade-long hiatus from the music business. The celebrated Hurricanes and Daydreams (Rebel 1646) was snapped up the minute it hit the market. The album's high acclaim led the way to Time Machine (Rebel 1656) the next year, clearly reaffirming Larry Rice's magic for making excellent bluegrass music.
T hat magic was learned in the late 1950's in southern California with Larry as a part-time member of his father Herb's bluegrass group, the Golden State Boys. A few years later Larry, along with brothers Tony and Ronnie formed their own sibling effort, the Haphazards. The group served as the perfect medium for the youthful Rices to hone their craft, eventually leading Larry and Tony to world-reknown status. This picture of the Rice Brothers includes, from left to right, Larry, Ronnie, Tony and Wyatt.

Boston Folk Festival 2002
A sell-out crowd watches Nanci Griffith and the Blue Moon Orchestra perform on Sunday
The excitement and anticipation was contagious early Saturday morning as hundreds of yellow-shirted volunteers converged on the UMass campus to complete the final preparations for the fifth annual Boston Folk Festival. The weather forecast was for clear, fall-like weather through the end of the festival; tickets for Sunday had already sold out; media were clamoring to cover this year's event. All signs indicated a standout festival, and not one of the 9,000+ people who attended was disappointed. Saturday's closer, Iris Dement,
played while the sun went down
Audience surveys had indicated that nine stages in one day was too many, so this year's festival unveiled revamped stages and a new, more user-friendly layout. There were five stages each day and they were all concentrated in a loop near the field stage. Getting from stage to stage was much easier, and the outdoor settings allowed everyone an opportunity to attend the workshops. Festival-goers arrived early each day to stake out prime places at the Field Stage, Plaza Stage and Fox Point Pavilion.
