Each part of the curriculum will be immersed with farm information and experiences, and the children will have first hand experience with farm related activities. This unit of study will take one month to study. We will be studying The Farm, culminating with a field trip to a farm.
Curriculum Unit:

Science
Objectives:
1. Brainstorm with the children and make a chart with their comments "What I Think I Know About Farms." 2. Read farm books to familiarize students with the difference between farms and cities. 3. Map the areas of a farm and let children use their own toys from home. Let them build farm yards with blocks. 4. Classify farm animals verses other animals and explain why. 5. Make farm puppets. 6. Learn the names of adult and baby animals. 7. Look at farm equipment and explain the uses for it. 8. Play a xylophone using color codes of "Old McDonald". 9. Use measurement to measure a picture of a barn, door, roof, sides.

This 30 acre farmstead is the 1860 home of Joseph Tanner, a Lunenburg fisherman, and his family; the present house was built in 1895. During a time when the men were away at sea fishing, the women were left to tend to the farm - hence the name Petticoat Farm.

Operates three buildings in town. The new Pasco Exhibit Center, 125 North Street, open year round, Tuesday-Friday 10-4, adults $3 and children $1 (free for under 6's at all attractions). Offers exciting themed exhibits documenting Kennebunkport's history. Next door is the Town House School, open by appointment, which the Society's Historical and Genealogical Research Center and meeting hall. Free on-site parking. The Nott House, 8 Maine Street, a Greek Revival Mansion, showcases the Victorian splendor of the Perkins-Nott family. Open for guided tours mid-June through mid-October, Tuesday-Friday 1-4 and Saturday 10-1. Tours are $5 for adults and $2 for children. Parking in Dock Square. Group tours are encouraged at all the attractions and may be arranged by calling (207) 967-2751.
LAUDHOLM TRUST - is a nonprofit organization supporting the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve at Laudholm Farm, a public site that combines historic beauty, recreation, and ecological studies. Open year round, the Reserve includes seven miles of trails through woodlands, salt marshes, and beach. It also offers public programs, exhibits, and gift shop in spring, summer, and fall. The Reserve is located off Routh 1 in Wells. 207-646-1555
