Links A LETTER FROM EGYPT by John Anthony West Index of Issue 7 As the new millennium approaches, and with it, the shift into the next precessional age of Aquarius, the enigmatic importance accorded that precessional shift by ancient cultures becomes a prominent feature of leading-edge scholarly research. It is now apparent that knowledge of the precession did not begin with the Greekswho have been credited with this discovery, as they have with just about everything that has led to contemporary science. (To fully appreciate the extent of the Eurocentric, white-supremacist con job foisted upon us as ancient history, see Black Athena: The Afro-Asiatic Roots of Greek Civilization by Cornell Professor, Martin Bernal.) But to complicate matters for Western scholars, prejudiced against a high pre-Greek science to begin with, knowledge of the precession was never referred to directly by the ancients. Rather, it was encoded into ancient myths, which often become comprehensible only when this astronomical element is discovered and acknowledged. At other times astronomical alignments based upon precessional phenomena determine the amazingly precise orientation of ancient temples, pyramids and whole cities.

A compilation of resources on the Ancient Near East, published by the Oriental Institute, a "museum and research organization devoted to the study of the ancient Near East." Founded in 1919 by James Henry Breasted, the Institute, a part of the University of Chicago, is "an internationally recognized pioneer in the archaeology, philology, and history of early Near Eastern civilizations." This site lists research projects in the area, museum collections on the Near East, and special sections dealing with each part of the Near Eastern archeology (Egypt, Mesopotamia, Iran, Anatolia, the Levant, Cyprus). It also includes photographic archives of the relevant regions.

The University of Connecticut, under the direction of Thomas Plunkett, has created a visually wonderful and informative site called ArchNet. It "provides access to archaeological resources available on the Internet." Graphic images connect the searcher to his/her query. There are hundreds of links to archeological Internet sites. ArchNet is organized into two main sections: regional and subject heading. There is a helpful hyper-link map to guide the user to the region of her/his interest.
