South Florida's first modern arts center, completed in 1990, cost about $60 million. Major touring companies of Broadway shows appear in the Au-Rene Theater, while smaller and mostly regional productions appear in the cozy Amaturo. Good acoustics are in both halls, and if the sound mix is right, sitting in the last row of the Amaturo is a fine perch. In the Au-Rene, avoid the front rows, especially for a rock musical, because the sound from the speaker towers flanking the stage can be ear-splitting. The area around the theater, Himmarshee Village, is developing as a restaurant-nightclub and arts district. Current/Upcoming Events Extras: Parking Pay lot ($5), Yes, Street parking difficult, Valet ($10), A county-owned garage is across Second Street from the theater, with a covered skywalk from the garage to the theater. Expect a 30 to 40 minute valet wait after performances.

Art-centered Vacations - Summer Workshops from New Brunswick to Alaska
Whether providing artists opportunities for career development or giving artists an opportunity for summer employment teaching what they do, summer workshops are art centered vacation-time experiences in settings conducive to art making from blacksmithing at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts on Deer Isle in Maine; to repertory training at Dance Space in New York City; to photographing wild horses in the Truman Meadows along the California-Nevada border to "Dancing on Sacred Ground" at Polli Talu Arts Center in Estonia. Summer workshops offer the chance to make art in inspiring places. They foster diverse art-making practices; nurture new artists young and old; and/or introduce the public to hands on work in the arts from Loon Lake Live! in the northern Adirondacks of New York; to the Squaw Valley Community of Writers near the North Shore of Lake Tahoe in California; to The Wrangell Mountains Writing Workshop in McCarthy, Alaska.

The purpose of this degree program is to provide curricula in university parallel and the pre-professional areas that enable students to enter as juniors at the four-year institution of their choice. While the liberal arts curricula suggested in this Catalog will satisfy the requirements of most senior institutions, it is the students’ responsibility to identify as early as possible the institution to which they will transfer and to ascertain the specific requirements of that institution for the freshman and sophomore year. Each student’s curriculum should be planned by the student and a counselor or academic advisor with a specific four-year institution in mind. Students who attend Tarrant County College for one or two years and transfer to senior colleges or universities should have no difficulty completing transfer of credits if these steps are followed:
  • Select a major field of study and a senior college or university which offers a bachelor’s degree in the chosen field.

The Music Program provides a home for student performers who value music as part of their college experience, whether they are music majors, music minors, or majoring in another area.
    • Professional concerts on campus showcase both Clark's performer-teachers and occasionally, nationally recognized musicians in classical, jazz, and world music. All of these events are free to Clark students and open to the public at no charge.
    • Student ensembles under professional directors include the Concert Choir and Chamber Chorus, the Jazz Workshop and Combo, String Ensembles, Mixed Winds Ensembles, and other performance groups as student interest demands. Students may also participate in the chamber orchestras at either Worcester Polytechnic Institute or the College of the Holy Cross if there are any openings.
    • Students (majors or minors in the Performance Track) participate in informal student workshops during each semester, preparing them for a more formal recital at the conclusion of each term. These performances involve solo work, as well as chamber groups and jazz combos.
