Theft of cable television service is a large and growing and illegal industry that operates nationwide. Theft of service costs the cable services millions of dollars annually and hurts honest cable consumers as well as the cable companies. Our communications lawyers have represented cable operators throughout the Northeast in recovering hundreds of illegal descramblers and collecting hundreds of thousands of dollars in civil settlement funds. On behalf of our clients, we have provided key assistance to the law enforcement community leading, in several cases, to the federal investigation, conviction and sentencing of high-profile New England-based descrambler manufacturers and distributors. We serve the cable television industry in three important areas: Advisory Practice. Our lawyers work with cable systems and telecommunications services providers and programmers to create and implement security measures and programs that work. We have succeeded in removing hundreds of illegal devices from the stream of commerce and have assisted the cable providers in finding ways to prevent their return.
Criminal Activities Practice. Our goal is to help cable companies develop information to facilitate criminal investigation and prosecution, usually at the federal level, of individuals who manufacture and market equipment designed to steal cable service. We work closely with the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's office to identify cable thieves, explain the technical aspects of the equipment used, and provide expert testimony in cases that the U.S. Attorney elects to prosecute under the criminal code.

Law Cyberstalking US State Laws US State Laws The first state in America to pass laws specifically addressing real life stalking was California in 1990. Until this change in the law the Police were powerless to act unless the target was actually physically attacked. Since then almost every state in the USA has passed legislation making stalking a criminal offense. Old habits die hard however, and many contemporary stalking victims in America are still told that nothing can be done unless a physical assault takes place. The California laws against stalking passed in 1990 did not specifically address online stalking. Nevertheless it is useful to review them in relation to the Internet as a starting point for any discussion of cyberstalking and the law. The California Penal Code [ Section 646.9. Stalking. 1990 (Amended 1994) ] defines the crime of stalking as follows: Any person who willfully, maliciously, and repeatedly follows or harasses another person and who makes a credible threat with the intent to place that person in reasonable fear for his or her safety... is guilty of the crime of stalking

    Attorney General, Richard Blumenthal
August 26, 1993 Honorable Rose Alma Senatore 170 Sigourney Street Hartford, CT 06105 Dear Commissioner Senatore: "...[t]he treatment of any child by a Christian Science practitioner in lieu of treatment by a licensed practitioner of the healing arts shall not of itself constitute maltreatment." 1. Whether the Attorney General's Office is the appropriate agency to provide a legal interpretation of the religious exemptions clause or whether the inquiries should be answered by the Chief State's Attorneys Office; 2. Whether the religious exemption clause relates to the status of the child or, at most, precludes a per se finding of neglect when a child's medical care is denied based on religious beliefs; and 3. Whether Connecticut's children receive equal consideration in matters of reporting, investigation and treatment of suspected and/or actual medical neglect regardless of the religious practices of parents or guardians. You are advised that the attorney general's office has the jurisdiction to respond to the federal agency's inquiries as framed, that the religious exemption clauses do not operate to prevent mandated and voluntary reporters from disclosing reasonable suspicions of abuse or neglect and do not prohibit the state's child protection agency from investigating and treating such cases, and that, therefore, Connecticut law does not create a "special class" of children who are deprived of protection against medical neglect due to the religious beliefs of parents or guardians.
