Dale Bruning Bio
Articles Bios Birthdays Books ... Email A native of Carbondale, Pennsylvania, guitarist, composer, arranger and educator Dale Bruning spent time living, working and recording in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York during the 1940s and 1950s. During his tenure in the United States Navy from 1953-57, he was a guitarist and arranger, and when called upon, he also played piano, bass, vibes and percussion. Upon his release in 1957, he studied at Temple University, declaring and graduating with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. He took as many music classes as he could. Concurrently, he studied music and guitar with world renowned educator Dennis Sandole. In 1961, Mr. Bruning became the leader of the house band for The Del Shields Show , a television variety program that originated from Philadelphia on WRCV, an NBC affiliate. In 1964, he and his family moved to Denver. An accident in 1988 nearly ended Mr. Bruning's career as a performing musician. While securing a window pane in the rubbish can, a piece of glass broke and slashed a deep cut across his left wrist. His median nerve to the fingers and the thumb tendon were badly cut. Dr. Charles Hamlin rebuilt the sheath around the nerve, enabling it to regenerate itself. After this tragedy, his commitment to playing was fueled by his deep passion for the music and his own acts of courage every time he picked up the guitar to practice, knowing the pain would be excruciating. His valor during the slow rehabilitative process was rewarded, however, as he has become an even stronger performer than prior to the accident. Considering that he has little feeling in one finger, he amazes audiences with his ability and agility on the fingerboard.

collaboration of Richard Boukas and Jovino Santos Neto offers a uniquely contemporary and universal musical language that abandons all common artificial industry boundaries between Brazilian, Jazz, Classical and other evolving traditions. Their work is marked by an organic synergy of primary Brazilian genres and polyrhythms including samba, bai‹o, maracatu, choro and frevo ; rich and daring Jazz harmonies and improvisations; extended compositional structures driven by Classical contrapuntal textures and motivic development. Gershwin's America This bulletin board is actually an American flag (well, sorta! It's my interpretation of the flag. :-)) With a Gershwin quote written on the white stripes and the name of some Gershwin songs on white notes that replace the white starts. The quote that I use: "True Music...must repeat the thoughts and inspirations of the people and their time. My people are Americans. My time is now." -George Gershwin (1898-1937) DUKE This bulletin board looks best down in black, white, silver and another accent color (like red or yellow). I use a white background, with sparkly silver trim, and black construction paper behind all of the letters, and the big photo of Duke Ellington in the middle of the board. I type up info about Duke Ellington, cut it down to a tall rectangular shape and then glue it to a piece of black construction paper that is cut in the shape of a top hat. I put the top hat with the info on it on a colored square of construction paper (red or yellow) and attach them in a semi-circle around the main picture of him in the middle of the board. I use top hats because the picture that I use of him has him in one. It looks sorta like this one- CLICK HERE . Here is the info that I use on the top hats. Born 29 April 1899 in Washington DC, composer, bandleader, and pianist Edward Kennedy ("Duke") Ellington was recognized in his lifetime as one of the greatest jazz composers and performers.

BIOGRAPHY Guitarist/Composer Jane Miller's new CD " The Other Room ", on Pink Bubble Records, is a 12 song collection of her most recent compositions, brilliantly performed by her group: Tim Ray - piano, Bob Simonelli - fretless electric bass, and Don Kirby - drums. The recording also features Jane's debut writing for strings, with a performance by The Arriaga String Quartet. With roots in both the folk singer-songwriter and jazz worlds, Jane is an active freelancer and composer. She has become a frequent guitarist with the internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter SONiA, formerly of disappear fear. She has performed with guitarists Leni Stern and Emily Remler (her former teacher). She has performed duets with bassists David Clark and Marshall Wood, saxophonists Cercie Miller, Billy Novick and Myanna; and other ensemble work with drummers Bob Gullotti and Steve Langone, pianists Bill O'Connell and Dick Odgren, and singers Toni Ballard and Jim Porcella. She is currently in a working chamber jazz trio with Cercie Miller and David Clark, for which she contributes many compositions.
