Edmund R. Burke, Ph.D. is Professor and Director of the Exercise Science Program at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. His research interests include cycling performance, sports nutrition, fitness and adaptations to training. He is also interested in the interrelationships among athletic performance, nutrition, training and equipment. He served as Coordinator of Sports Sciences for the U. S. Cycling Team leading up to the Olympic Games in 1996 and was a staff member for the 1980 and 1984 Olympic Cycling Teams. He is also the author of Inside the Cyclist (Velo-news, 1984), The Two-Wheeled Athlete (Velo-news, 1986), Physiology of Cycling (Movement Publications, 1986), The Science of Cycling (Human Kinetics Publishers, 1986) and Medical and Scientific Aspects of Cycling (Human Kinetics, 1988). The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center/JFK Partners as lead agency in partnership with the Colorado Developmental Disabilities Planning Council has received a Projects of National Significance Family Support grant from the Administration on Developmental Disabilities to develop a training initiative to support family leadership and decision making. Colorado Partners in System Change: Building Family and Community Capacity The plan will include the following key components: 1) expand the capacity of parents to effect change for children and families through hands-on learning; 2) provide training sessions for parents to become knowledgeable leaders for children and families; 3) develop communities of parents across the state that will support one another in skills development and successful parent action; 4) facilitate systems change for family involvement with increased utilization of parents in policy decisions and 5) support a change in infrastructure that would encourage options for parents to govern their family support resources.

Colorado State University A native of Kansas, Dr. Kendall received her B.S. in Home Economics Education and M.S. in Foods and Nutrition from Kansas State University. Her Ph.D. is in Nutrition Education from Colorado State University. Since 1976, Dr. Kendall has been a professor and Cooperative Extension Specialist in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Colorado State University. As such, she works with extension agents, teachers, graduate students and nutrition and agricultural professionals across Colorado in developing, implementing and evaluating programs in the areas of foods, nutrition and food safety. For the past several years she has placed special emphasis on developing, implementing and evaluating programs and research projects on communicating with consumers about health risks, including risks associated with the safety of the food supply. This July she added a one-year assignment as interim head of her Department.
