Bill Clinton: Statesman
Jenny Malapitan profiles the former U.S. president with a world changing IT legacy It's been a long time since we've seen the Clinton hug on television. Then suddenly there he was on CNN again, the cable news channel whose programmes he dominated for all of eight years. Private Citizen Bill Clinton visited the Armory in New York City where a small crowd of people were registering the names of missing loved ones in the aftermath of the New York World Trade Centre tragedy. The soundman couldn't quite catch what he was saying to one sobbing woman but the cameraman caught the consoling hug. Then a voice from the crowd asked, "What would you do if you were president?" The response was sharp and swift: "But that's exactly the point. I am not the President." And he urged Americans to rally around President George W. Bush.
He may no longer be president but that was vintage Clinton: the warm, compulsive communicator who also happens to be fiercely intelligent; the most charismatic policy maker who ever made it to the United States White House.

REMARKS BY PRESIDENT CLINTON
ON KEEPING AMERICA SECURE FOR THE 21ST CENTURY January 22, 1999 National Academy of Sciences Washington, D.C. 10:30 A.M. EST THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. Jamie, Dr. Lederberg, I'd like to thank you for your service in this and so many other ways. I would like to thank Sandy Berger for many things, including indulging my nagging on this subject for the better part of six years now. I was so relieved that Dr. Lederberg not very long ago well, last year brought a distinguished panel bioterrorism threat, because I then had experts to cite on my concern and nobody thought I was just reading too many novels late at night. Madame Attorney General, Secretary Shalala, Secretary Richardson, Director Witt, Deputy Secretary Hamre, Commandant of the Coast Guard and our other military leaders who are here, Mr. Clarke, ladies and gentlemen. I'm delighted to be here to discuss this subject. With some trepidation, Sandy Berger noted that Dr. Lederberg won a Nobel Prize at 33, and I was governor you can infer from that that I was not very good at chemistry and biology. But any democracy is imbued with the responsibility of ordinary citizens who do not have extraordinary expertise to meet the challenges of each new age. And that is what we are all trying to do. Our country has always met the challenges of those who would do us harm. At the heart of our national defense I have always believed is our attempt to live by our values democracy, freedom, equal opportunity. We are working hard to fulfill these values at home. And we are working with nations around the world to advance them, to build a new era of interdependence where nations work together not simply for peace and security, but also for better schools and health care, broader prosperity, a cleaner environment and a greater involvement by citizens everywhere in shaping their own future.

    William Jefferson Clinton
    Farewell Address - Monday, January 18, 2001
Quote My fellow citizens, tonight is my last opportunity to speak to you from the Oval Office as your President. note I am profoundly grateful to you for twice giving me the honor to serve, to work for you and with you to prepare our Nation for the 21st century. And I'm grateful to Vice President Gore, to my Cabinet Secretaries, and to all those who have served with me for the last 8 years. This has been a time of dramatic transformation, and you have risen to every new challenge. You have made our social fabric stronger, our families healthier and safer, our people more prosperous. You, the American people, have made our passage into the global information age an era of great American renewal. In all the work I have done as Presidentevery decision I have made, every executive action I have taken, every bill I have proposed and signedI've tried to give all Americans the tools and conditions to build the future of our dreams in a good society with a strong economy, a cleaner environment, and a freer, safer, more prosperous world. I have steered my course by our enduring values: opportunity for all, responsibility from all, a community of all Americans. I have sought to give America a new kind of Government, smaller, more modern, more effective, full of ideas and policies appropriate to this new time, always putting people first, always focusing on the future.

How did Cohen fall so far from his lofty perch?
    A DISAPPOINTING START
In fact, Cohen proved invaluable to the president in the wake of two questionable military strikes that critics contend were ordered by Clinton to draw attention away from embarrassing news stories at home.
It got even stickier for Cohen a few months later. In December, on the eve of the House vote to impeach the president, Clinton ordered his military into action again. Lives of American pilots were put in jeopardy by the command to bomb targets in Iraq. AN OBVIOUS DOUBLE-STANDARD When Cohen first became secretary of defense, he breathed fire about sexual misconduct in the military. When the Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia took the lives of 19 American airman, Cohen needed a scapegoat. He found him in the local commander.

We'd like to welcome you to the William Jefferson Clinton Memorial Library dedicated to preserving the true legacy of the 42nd President of the United States.
The atomosphere of the Clinton administration from the beginning was generally one of usurpation and departure from constitutional compliance. Bill Clinton began his reign in office cloaked in a exaggerated economic crisis, promising a financially beleaguered populace to bring change to the economy. Beginning from the very outset his social programs promised to sink America into even deeper moral decadence. And as his second term in office proved, he incrementally sold out this countries sovereignty to a foreign interests.
Certainly, the bulk of Americans who voted for Clinton/Gore never envisioned the global socialist state that they and those who dictate policy to them would institute and are now even continuing to build. But, then again, those same voters had proven they didn't care anymore. The price we paid was that now America has an administration with an openly socialist agenda.
Indeed, the transfer of power from George Bush to Bill Clinton and Al Gore did represent generational change and possibly more importantly, a change to openly
