Welcome to the Cheney Clinic Information Service or CCIS, an Internet accessible information service with current information on research, diagnosis and management of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS).
Our Mission
The mission of the Cheney Clinic Information Service (CCIS) is to construct a system that will leverage quality patient care in the form of vital information and to dispense it to as wide an audience as possible. The resource to be leveraged is not only the time and energy of talented physicians but also the current best thinking or knowledge base on a particular aspect of patient care. In the case of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), the problem is particularly acute due to the scarcity of knowledgeable physicians and the very large number of CFS patients marginalized by either distance from quality care or their inability to afford it.

The practice was set-up in 1998 in order to offer Southport residents a centrally located osteopathic consulting room. The surgery moved to 25 Duke Street in February 2002 and for the moment has eight steps to the front door, so there is not access for disabled patients. There is also off-road parking for two cars. I enjoy treating patients and all aspects of my work. I specialise in the osteopathic treatment of "ME" or chronic fatigue syndrome, as well as dealing with the musculo-skeletal problems one sees in osteopathic practice, such as low back injuries, neck strains and degenerative conditions.
    Surgery Hours:- Monday Wednesday Friday
    About Kay Barker: -
I qualified in 1996 from the British School of Osteopathy in London. For two years after graduating I practised as a locum to gain insight into different practice life and eventually decide on where I would settle down. I worked everywhere North of Watford! Then in Southern Spain before deciding to return to Southport, where I was brought up, in order to practise from here. Working as a locum gave me the experience which I felt I needed to set up my own business and decide upon exactly how I wanted to run my own practice. I also work in a group practice at Perrin Hayward Osteopaths, 83 Whittaker Lane, Prestwich. Manchester. This means that I can talk to colleagues and discuss cases, as well as treat a wider cross-section of people.

It is the first of its kind and provides information on these conditions, and also links to many sites with much more detailed information. It's important to note that this is an amateur site, not an official local, national or international support or information group. Hopefully, however, small individual endeavours like this will pave the way for such official groups to emerge. In addition, the Hypermobility & Fibromyalgia Group (hm-ed-fm) is the only discussion/support group online for people with both of these conditions. All are welcome! Lessons from Macrophagic Myofasciitis: Towards a Definition of a Vaccine Adjuvant-Related Syndrome [Chronic Fatigue Syndrome news] Macrophagic myofasciitis is a condition first reported in 1998, and the cause remained obscure until 2001. Over 200 definite cases have been identified in France, and isolated cases have been recorded in other countries. The condition manifests by diffuse myalgias and chronic fatigue, forming a syndrome that meets both Center for Disease Control and Oxford criteria for the so-called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in about half of patients.
Peering Beneath the Turbulent Waters of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Gene Expression Profiling Provides Hope
According to Craig Maupin of the CFIDS Report, "Due to the uncertainty about [the pathology of] Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), it is very difficult to get a clear picture of where to place research efforts. But that uncertainty could change, as a new technology - like gene expression profiling, can help to pinpoint the physiological differences between CFS and healthy patients."

According to a November 1996 Journal of American Medical Association report, 100 million Americans are suffering from a chronic illness - from chronic fatigue syndrome to cancer. Whatever the origin or origins of the increase of these illnesses- or the appearance of new ones- a solution to the problem must be found. We continue to strive to use this web site to disseminate information from sources to solutions. As we see it, discovery leads to diagnostics that drive therapeutics. The cooperation of scientists, healthcare providers, manufacturers and regulatory agencies is required.

from Dr. Poesnecker I realize that many, if not most of you have been told there is no effective treatment for your condition. That you must just "learn to live with it." Our experience has demonstrated otherwise. The underlying causes of these conditions are known and so also are effective treatments. While we have no magic cure, with the cooperation of the individual, we have been able to return thousands of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, CFIDS and Fibromyalgia patients to active productive lives by the methods we have developed and taught over the last forty-five years. We can also help you if you are ready to start living once again. Below you will find links to many articles describing the methods we use to help individuals successfully overcome these devastating and humiliating conditions. Once you have had an opportunity to puruse these, the next step on your road to recovery is to take an Adrenal Stress Index test (ASI) from DiagnosTech labs of Seattle, Washington. We have tried many other labs, but this is the only one whose results have been really useful in helping our patients. Concurrent with taking the ASI test you should be studying

    Executive Summary
The term Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) refers to a symptom complex of marked and prolonged fatigue for which no identifiable cause can be found. Other symptoms frequently present include generalised muscle weakness and pain, low-grade fever, sore throat, painful lymph nodes in the neck and armpits, exacerbation of fatigue after moderate or strenuous exercise for periods of 24 hours or more, transient pains in a number of joints, and various disturbances of neuropsychological function including confusion, irritability, poor concentration and visual changes. Despite the range of other symptoms being extensive, none are essential for the diagnosis to be made in the presence of profound fatigue of 6 months or more duration. Chronic fatigue syndrome is frequently seen in association with psychiatric illnesses such as depression and anxiety but has not been shown to be causally related to any particular psychiatric disease.
