Ampère, André Marie
Ampère, a teacher at Paris, has his permanent place in the history of science because it was his name that was given to the unit by which we measure electrical current. He had, of course, an interest in electricity; in addition, Ampère made similar investigations as did Avogadro into the nature of matter in its gaseous state.
Alfven, Hannes Olof Gosta
What I know of Alfven is that he was born in Sweden in 1908; and, while at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, in 1970, he won the Nobel Prize in Physics "for fundamental work and discoveries in magneto-hydrodynamics with fruitful applications in different parts of plasma physics." I first bumped into Alfven when I picked up a small paperback book of his, which I very much enjoyed, Atom, Man, and the Universe, The Long Chain of Complications (San Francisco: Freeman, 1969). It was written simply and plainly for a general audience, and enables us "to view ourselves both as a part of the atomic microcosm and as part of the universe that dwarfs us."
Archimedes (287-212 B.C.).

    The Nobel Prize in Chemistry
Chemistry is one of the five prize areas mentioned in Alfred Nobel's will. The will was, however, partly incomplete. Nobel simply stated that prizes be given to those who, during the preceding year, "shall have conferred the greatest benefit on mankind" and that one part be given to the person who "shall have made the most important chemical discovery or improvement." It is intended to be a supplement to the text and course materials provided by the classroom teacher while encouraging the use of electronic media by students and staff. The web sites included are by no means intended to be all inclusive but they can provide access to useful information and they will often lead to additional information through links included on these pages. See the end of the outline below for a list of some general Chemistry links and some sources of Chemistry journals.

Bill has worked with Ducks Unlimited of Arkansas and after becoming popular doing sporting dogs he began doing Pet Portraits. Because of his interest in cryptozoology and the desire to educate others about the authenticity of cryptozoology as a true endeavor of science and zoology, he has begun to illustrate the possible appearance of unknown animals.
