F rom Alpena to Altheimer, Portia to Perryville, New Spadra to New Hope, Eudora to Evening Shade . . . are all children in Arkansas getting the same educational opportunities and funding for instruction that will adequately prepare them for life after high school? Citizens acting on behalf of the Lake View School District in Phillips County said "No!" in 1992 and filed a lawsuit that says the State of Arkansas is not providing a general, suitable, and efficient system of public education that is good enough and fair enough for our children. The courts have agreed and the decision now lies with Arkansas' highest court - the State Supreme Court. Because the Arkansas Constitution says it is the legislature's responsibility to provide a fair and equal education, our lawmakers passed Act 1398, An Act to Create a Blue Ribbon Commission on Public Education , in the 2001 legislative session in hopes of avoiding a very likely possibility that our education system will be declared unconstitutional. The Commission is made up of 25 Arkansas citizens and six legislators who are charged with addressing our serious educational problems and proposing solutions to them.

Membership Services The Association of Arkansas Counties is constantly seeking new methods to contribute to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of county government and, consequently, to better serve the citizens of Arkansas. The services offered by AAC are divided into five major areas: Legislative Representation The Association serves as the official voice of Arkansas county government in the State Capitol. The Association also serves as the official spokesperson and liaison of Arkansas counties in dealing with state and federal agencies. The key to the stability and development of Arkansas county government is in presenting a unified voice to other levels of government. Arkansas' 75 counties do not always agree on everything, but the 30 years of Association history have demonstrated that there is sufficient commonality of interest among Arkansas counties to necessitate banding together in an Association for the mutual benefit of all Arkansas counties. The Association has been instrumental in many achievements of direct and indirect benefits to Arkansas counties. These are a few of the significant ones:

General Information THE UNIVERSITY MUSEUM The University Museum has been an integral part of the Fayetteville academic community since 1873. The Museum staff develops and maintains extensive collections in archaeology, ethnography, geology, history, physical anthropology, botany and zoology, which are generally available for exhibition, research, education, and/or loan. Many of the collections are more suitable as education and research tools rather than exhibition materials. The museum exhibits only a small fraction of its collections at any one time. However, to increase exposure of its acquisitions, to provide variety and interest for viewers at various locations in the community, and to enhance area educational programs, the museum curates traveling and other special exhibits with specimens not included in the regular exhibits. Appropriate museum collections are assembled on request for university classes in the natural and social sciences, art and classics. Museum specimens and their associated documentation are available for comparative and research purposes by university faculty, qualified students, and visiting scholars. Museum staff members have research or administrative responsibilities in their areas of specialization, and serve as guest lecturers in university courses.

WIA Certification

A subset of institutions and programs applied for and received certification by one or more local workforce investment boards to provide education and training to persons awarded vouchers under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). The fact that a program is not certified under WIA does not imply that it is not an education-certified program.

Inclusion of information regarding any program of training services or any institution, organization or individual providing training services is in no way an endorsement by the Arkansas Employment Security Department (AESD) of that program, institution, organization or individual. The Department has included in this list information provided to it by Local Workforce Investment Boards (LWIBs) and training providers and does not guarantee the accuracy of the information. Initial certification and inclusion on these lists is based on data submitted to Local Boards by the training providers applying for certification under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998. Training providers are subject to removal from the Statewide List of Certified Training Providers if they intentionally supply inaccurate information. Viewers are encouraged to review the list prior to enrolling in a program or course to ensure that the training provider is certified to enroll persons with a WIA Individual Training Account.
