Family Place Library - Arizona Libraries Serving as Partners to Parents of Young Children

Thursday, 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Tucson 40 Stephanie Moritz, librarian, Yucca Branch Library, Phoenix Public Library Nick Escalante, community services coordinator, Tempe Public Library Rhian Evans, state coordinator, Libraries for the Future PLD The Family Place Library is a partnership between Middle Country Public Library and Libraries for the Future and is currently in eight libraries across Arizona and over 75 across the United States. A Family Place Library is a center for early childhood information, parent education, emergent literacy, socialization, and family support. Expanding the traditional role of children's services, the Family Place builds on the knowledge that good health, early learning, parent involvement and supportive communities play a critical role in young children's growth and development. Family Place library staff, trained in developmentally appropriate and family support practice, leverage the resources of the library to effectively serve young children and families. CDT is designed for librarians and other library staff who are new to collection development or who need to brush up on a particular aspect of collection development. While the aim of this site is to provide practical collection development training that is useful for small and rural public libraries in Arizona, CDT would be of use to anyone working in a small library or information center in any state. This site is not intended for those working in large libraries since many of the collection development processes and examples would not be relevant to their needs. What is included in this site Section Contents Menu Bar Home Page Site Map
CDT provides training on many aspects of the collection development process. The training information was gathered by interviewing rural public librarians in Arizona, by researching the print literature for articles and books relevant to the collection development needs of smaller public libraries, and by searching the Internet for useful collection development tools and resources. This site provides the following:
