Home Common Logon Table of Contents Students ... Student Services The paradigm shift, since I took office is that the Department of Education will be primarily a service organization, helping school districts and charter schools achieve more academic success. The Department is also an organization that assures compliance, and we will have to be conscientious about that, but the compliance function will be secondary. The primary function is now: service. If you would like to read about our 8 primary goals, please click here to read my inaugural speech. It is my hope that the Department of Education will be a place of intellectual passion and ferment, processing many ideas, and effectively implementing the best of them. Tom Horne

Kid's Health Kids With Special Needs School Issues ... Home Parents Community What I’ve Learned About Cultivating Parent Involvement Educator Max Fischer has found that successful teaching often hinges on employing a wide variety of instructional methods to meet student needs. In this Voice of Experience essay, Fischer reflects on how getting parents involved in their students’ education also requires a variety of approaches. Should Schools Parent Our Kids? Should the community expect teachers and administrators to deal with problems or potential problems that do not directly affect students during the school day? Should parents want schools to take on the role of raising their kids? New Paperback Spotlights Students' Best Writing! Fax: (602)832-8853 Arizona Supreme Court Upholds Tax Credit Phoenix, Arizona - In April of 1997, the Arizona Legislature and the Governor of Arizona joined together and passed the historic and revolutionary Voluntary Tuition Tax Credit legislation. Today, 3 of the 5 Arizona Supreme Court Justices have declared it constitutional. To all who understand the specifics and implications of this legislation, there is abiding conviction that it will be upheld in the US Supreme Court, and that a new day has dawned in America. The bill is both simple and profound. It will allow taxpayers to receive up to a $500 tax credit when they make private, voluntary contributions to charities that use at least 90 percent of the money to provide private scholarships for children in Arizona to attend the school of their parents' choice. Even the poorest child now becomes royalty in the
system. In the past, only wealthy parents could afford their children such opportunity.
