An interesting bit of fact collecting was done by a Brit Scientist who'd had a heart attack, when he looked at the aspirin study and accidentally discovered the amazing fact that the people who'd done this famous study on how GOOD aspirin was for heart patients, had used buffered aspirin. Remember that blood thinning study well it was conducted in England? The one that showed aspirin prevented strokes and heart attacks? Remember that one, and how suddenly everyone was taking a baby aspirin every morning? Well, only a scientist like this Internet writer-researcher would be smart enough to realize that one of the components of buffered aspirin is basic, off the shelf magnesium. Studies indicate that most people are sadly lacking in this very important mineral as it is found in stuff nobody eats any more: WHOLE GRAINS, nuts, greens and beets. It is actually highest in totally un-refined grains.

Diet Rich in Foods with Vitamin E May Reduce Alzheimer's Disease Risk A new population-based study of antioxidants, appearing in the June 26, 2002, Journal of the American Medical Association JAMA ), suggests that a diet rich in foods containing vitamin E may help protect some people against Alzheimer's disease (AD). The study is also noteworthy for its finding that vitamin E in the form of supplements was not associated with a reduction in the risk of AD. The latest in a series of reports on vitamin E and dementia, the study findings heighten interest in the outcome of clinical trials now underway to test the effectiveness of vitamin E and other antioxidants in preventing or postponing cognitive decline and AD. The JAMA study was conducted by Martha Clare Morris, Sc.D., of the Rush Institute for Healthy Aging at Rush-Presbyterian-St.Luke's Medical Center, Chicago, IL, Denis A. Evans, M.D., and colleagues. A related study by Morris and colleagues, in press in the July 2002 Archives of Neurology , a JAMA publication, also associates vitamin E with protection against more general cognitive decline. (Reporting of additional detail on this study is embargoed for July 14, 2002, 4 p.m. ET.) Both studies were supported by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) at the National Institutes of Health.

Avoiding Aluminum
Aluminum The last three decades have seen a steady increase of aluminum in our environment and diet. Many junk and fake foods contain additives, for example raising agents in muffins and donuts and more than half of the water utilities use aluminum sulphate to clarify drinking water. Other source include antacids, buffered aspirin and anti-perspirants. Many food colors use aluminum salts to make the color brighter. Americans are most at risk and Europeans next with Africans and Asians much less likely to have problems. Aluminum (European spelling Aluminium) is harmful to all life forms. It damages all types of tissue. " Aluminum is a protoplasmic poison and a pernicious and persistent neurotoxin". No living systems use aluminium as part of a biochemical process. It has a tendency to accumulate in the brain and to a lesser extent, bones. It is considerably less toxic than mercury, arsenic, lead or cadmium, but it appears to be more persistent than any of them. The danger is one that only manifests itself over long periods of time. It is therefore prudent to avoid consumption. Avoidance is currently the best way of protecting you and your family from the serious, long term damage that can result from ingestion. Pregnant and lactating women, the young and the elderly are at risk. The most effective way of preserving your mental acuity in to your later years appears to be eliminating the sources of aluminum in the diet.

Soy Protein Alone Wont Reduce Cholesterol At Least Not in Hamsters
For menopausal women, the loss of estrogen triggers a rise in both circulating total cholesterol and low density lipoproteins (LDLs), which increases the risk of coronary heart disease. While many doctors tout soy protein as a natural alternative to hormone replacement therapy, due to its cholesterol-lowering effects, studies with hamsters seem to indicate that soy protein alone is not the solution. A team of investigators from Oklahoma State University evaluated the effects of soy protein isolate on cholesterol levels in ovariectomized and sham-operated (intact) golden Syrian hamsters. Post-ovariectomy, the animals serum 17-b estradiol levels were reduced, mimicking the effects of menopause in humans. These hamsters also had higher levels of serum cholesterolboth total and nonhigh-density lipoprotein (non-HDL) cholesterol. Animals were fed either a cholesterol-free casein-based diet or an isoflavone-depleted soy protein isolate (SPe) diet for 70 days. The research, published in February in the Journal of Nutrition, showed that when fed the casein-based diet, both intact and ovariectomized hamsters had elevated serum triglyceride levels compared with those hamsters fed the SPe-based diet. However, ovariectomized animals on either diet had equally high levels of serum phospholipids and free and esterified cholesterol compared with those levels seen in intact animals. Seemingly, the soy protein component on its own did not reduce circulating fats and cholesterol. Thus, although the total triglyceride levels were decreased, specific components of cholesterol were not.

2002 Annual Report Board Members Research Programs ... Lectures
What is Alzheimer's Disease? Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a degenerating disorder of the brain characterised by deficits in short and long-term memory, language and other cognitive (thinking) functions. It usually develops slowly but steadily over a period of 6-20 years. The onset can be in middle adult life or even earlier, but usually occurs in later life. In late onset cases, progression of AD tends to be slower and characterised by a more general impairment of higher cortical function (eg. communication skills and problem-solving ability). Although AD is usually a late onset (above 65 years) sporadic disease, approximately 10% of AD cases are characterised as early onset (below 65 years). The early-onset form of AD is more severe and an age of onset as young as 31 years of age has been reported in Australia. Whilst only a small percentage of late-onset sufferers have a familial origin to their pathology, most cases of early-onset AD are familial. In 1995 the Australian Bureau of Statistics estimated that 130,000* Australians were afflicted by either AD or a related dementia.

    A Natural Remedy for Alzheimer's !
That the daily seafood diet is a natural remedy for Alzheimer's is truly wonderful news - and more recent biomedical proof that my discovery is correct. But the most wonderful thing is that we - every one of us - can now go ahead and do something about Alzheimer's, instead of waiting helplessly to find out if an ill fate will destroy our mind - or pass us by.
This also offers great good hope that a daily diet high in seafood - the higher the better - will arrest Alzheimer's and, perhaps, even cure it. This remains to be seen though, but now we have every reason in the world to give it a try.
That it also lowers the risk of heart disease - as I keep on saying in these pages - is a great wonderful bonus.
Again though, all the evidence points to the complete natural range of the 72+ trace elements in seafood. The author states that egg is the only other source of DHA, and this is a bit iffy, depending upon what the hens are fed. So, this raises the question why Alzheimer's was extremely rare not so long ago here - and why it is still extremely rare in Sri Lanka, China and Japan?
And this tallies very nicely with the fact that the neglect of over 60 trace elements by our modern agriculture has resulted in the severe deficiency, or total lack of these trace elements in our daily food - as well with the fact that the traditional agriculture in these eastern countries maintains the complete range of the 72+ trace elements in their food, via the return of all life-wastes to the soil, and along with them, all of the 72+ nutritional trace elements.

In addition to ginseng, ginkgo, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, red wine and vitamin E, medicine may have another weapon to fight this obscene affliction. The New Scientist 5 Dec 98 reports that the anti-cancer drug ‘taxol’ may be useful in stabilising the protein skeleton of neurons (nerve cells). This could prevent the tangles within the neuron and perhaps delay the progress of the disease.
    Prevention with Red Wine
Research shows that people who drink moderate amounts of wine daily (ie 1 glass) were less likely to develop neurodegenerative diseases. Apparently a chemical on the skins of grapes can stimulate neurons’ growth between each other, making more connections with neighbouring cells. This is good news for people concerned about preventing Alzheimers Disease or perhaps Parkinsons. If one is concerned about the alcohol consumption, one may be able to find the dried raisins, or buy the supplement which concentrate these chemicals in powered form (called The Wine Affair) or by cooking (which drives off the alcohol) with red wine. Certain Foods May Help Prevent Alzheimers Disease
(New York-WABC, June 25, 2002) There is no cure for Alzheimer's disease, but it appears certain foods may help prevent it. Now, ABC7's Dr. Jay Adlersberg is On Call with the details. Scientists believe that up to four million Americans suffer from the brain-deteriorating disease known as Alzheimer's. This number is also growing as the population ages. We don't fully understand the causes, and although medication can help delay it there is no drug or vaccine to prevent it. Today, however, there is an interesting medical study to tell you about. In tomorrow's "Journal of the American Medical Association," scientists present a study that provides the most direct evidence between diet and preventing Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Martha Clare Morris, Rush Presbyterian-St. Lukes Medical Center: "We did find that there was this significant reduction in Alzheimers disease from Vitamin E intake from food sources."

It is toxic and is being processed into a variety of our foods, and other consumables. First, we should ask:

Often linked to this is agitated behaviour, which is either endured or unsuccessfully treated with chemical or physical restraints. However, these treatments markedly increase the stress levels on those providing care for the patient so another type of solution would be welcomed by carers.
