10. AVL | Access The Alabama Virtual Catalog
This site uses special software to allow users to search the web catalogsof participating alabama libraries with a single search interface.
http://www.avl.lib.al.us/resources/mhsl.html
Access the Alabama Virtual Catalog
Access to the Alabama Virtual Catalog can be found at the Mervyn H. Sterne Library website at The University of Alabama at Birmingham . This site uses special software to allow users to search the web catalogs of participating Alabama libraries with a single search interface. Users should note that searching via the Alabama Virtual Catalog will be slower than searching the catalog for any single site. The virtual catalog is built as the server attempts to connect to all libraries to retrieve information about available reso urces. When searching, the server searches all connections in turn and returns a complete set of results from each site that is available at the time of the query. The common interface is the lowest common denominator. While some of the power and functionality of individual system interfaces may not be available, the resulting list allows the user to review the holdings of multiple sites. You may contact the MHSL WEB Team directly if you have questions regarding the service. A listing of the libraries included in the MHSL Alabama Virtual Catalog can be found at http://www.mhsl.uab.edu/avl/remote.avl.htm
