Alabama became a part of the Mississippi Territory in 1798 after Indian cessions in north Alabama. Migration increased after the end of the Creek War in 1814. In 1817, the Alabama Territory was created, and Alabama became the 22nd in December 1819. The Mobile area was settled even earlier. Founded in 1702 by French explorers, Mobile served as the capital of French Louisiana for 16 years. In 1763, Mobile and the Gulf area of Florida became a British colony. Control of Mobile and British West Florida changed hands several times between 1780 and the War of 1812.     Released 28 January 2003
    By a treaty of March 24, 1832, the Creek Indians ceded to the United States all of their land east of the Mississippi River. Heads of families were entitled to tracts of land, which, if possible, were to include their improvements. In 1833 Benjamin S. Parsons and Thomas J. Abbott prepared a census of Creek Indian heads of families, which gave their names and the number of males, females, and slaves in each family. The entries were arranged by town and numbered; these numbers were used for identification in later records. 1835 Cherokee East of the Mississippi Census

It is named for the Coosa River which forms the county's western boundary with Chilton county. The county seat is Rockford which was originally named Pondalassa.     Chilton County
    Chilton County was created by act of the Alabama legislature on 30 December 1868 from land taken from Autauga Bibb Perry , and Shelby counties. Originally named Baker County, in honor of Alfred Baker, a prominent citizen, it was renamed Chilton in honor of Chief Justice William Parish Chilton on 17 December 1874. In 1992, the population was 33,220 in a land area of 695 square miles, an average of 47.9 people per square mile. The county seat is located at Clanton .

    of Montgomery County, Alabama is a nonprofit corporation which publishes a quality Quarterly of approximately 30 pages making records available to the public in many area: indexes and abstracts of wills, marriages, church records. Various records are abstracted from the Alabama Department of Archives and History. Will Books 1822-1854 have been abstracted and published along with a Marriage Book A-E 1817-1850. Presently member volunteers are conducting a county-wide cemetery survey with computer indexing for greater accessibility. A cemetery book will be published in the near future as well as a bible record book. Monthly meetings with programs of genealogical interest are held September through June. Limited research assistance is offered by volunteers.
