Too lazy to be ambitious, I let the world take care of itself .
A poem by Zen Master Ryokan.
Too lazy to be ambitious,
I let the world take care of itself.
Ten days' worth of rice in my bag;
a bundle of twigs by the fireplace.
Why chatter about delusion and enlightenment?
Listening to the night rain on my roof,
I sit comfortably, with both legs stretched out. Ryokan

Shima spa (we say Shima "ONSEN") is one of the most famous spa's in Japan.
The reason for this is it's relaxing atmosphere, it's relaxing bathes, and it's surrounding countryside.
Kashiwaya Ryokan has three types of outdoor bathes as well as one indoor bath, and a private bath for chartered use.

Tama Ryokan provides basic accommodation for a reasonable price in a central Tokyo location. It is about 3 minutes walk from the Yamanote line, and literally seconds from the Tozai subway line. The neighborhood offers a splendid variety of cuisine: Indian, Thai, Italian, French, Cambodian, Nepali, Burmese, and others, with some very reasonable lunch-special prices. See Tokyo Food Pages for more details than we can possibly supply. Other neighborhood attractions include a movie theater (not too common in Tokyo), a bookstore, Books Horindo, with a decent English-language section, and several hangouts popular with the gaijin crowd, most notably The Fiddler and Ben's Cafe Mickey House , an English conversation lounge of long standing in Tokyo, is practically across the street.
Payment Terms
We do not take credit cards. Payment is in cash, when you arrive; if you haven't been able to get a decent exchange rate, we can wait until the next day.

A. Scott Greer, Ph.D.
"Ryokan has given meaning and life to the term interactive. Students are immersed in an ongoing dialogue with peers and faculty while the learning experience itself melds academics with clinical practice. The synergism that develops is a reward to all involved." The name RYOKAN COLLEGE (pronounced "rhee-oh-khan") The College's online program has been designed to enhance student/professor involvement and to increase communication between student's within the intimate class size of no more than 15 students. In our program, students will be introduced to a learning platform called IZIO and they will learn to utilize "links" that will make learning an interesting and enjoyable experience. PROGRAM DIRECTOR: DR. ROB WOLF Rob Wolf, Ph.D. was awarded his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He attended the California Graduate Institute where he earned his Master of Arts degree in Psychology and also completed his doctoral studies with specialized training in the area of Behavioral Medicine including being nationally certified in Biofeedback. Dr. Wolf completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship training program through the University of Utah, School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry in the Division of Behavioral Medicine. His focus was with the treatment of acute and chronic pain.

A sample collection.
Poems of Ikkyu, Bankei, and Ryokan Ikkyu appears very unconventional for most of us. He carried a human head skeleton on the new year's day to warn people in Kyoto to be aware of impermanence when they were all celebrating. (Remember Sept. 11 Terrorist attack?) I feel the environment we live in will make our concern tied to the specific conditions given at that time as obvious as it may be. Bankei is less peculiar, perhaps. It appears that he was quite grounded in one and only point - the Buddha mind - in his own way. Ryokan, I added here quickly, has yet another universe of his own - with the same heart at the core. There is another file listed on my home page on Ryokan, but here are few more of this man as if Thoreau of Japan. He offers quite a different yet unique flavor of poems to be appreciated especially for those very close to the nature. Each of these Zen masters had different upbringings that I feel influenced their life quite deeply. Their life and these poems seem to answer to their life's concern from the depth of their mind/heart. At the end, as they reached at the top of the mountain, as Ikkyu mentioned, they all saw the same moon shining the whole universe. Many paths lead from The foot of the mountain But at the peak We all gaze at the Single bright moon Some words may appear far fetched. However, I hope these poems do not bring a wrong image on what they are pointing at for us. It may be that only wise and compassionate ones who climbed up the passage of the mountain appreciate the deep meaning behind these words. Otherwise, we may just take a glimpse of the bright moon through the shadows of the pine trees. May all being be happy!
