Karen Irving kei4b@virginia.edu biography interests hobbies Biography Webster, New York, located on the shores of Lake Ontario, is my hometown. My older brother and I shared a peaceful childhood on the edges of suburban Rochester. My travels began during my senior year in high school when I lived in Hanau, Germany, and attended the Karl Reibahn Gymnasium as an American Field Service school year program exchange student. My college undergraduate work was completed at Bucknell University . An unusual program at Bucknell allowed me to complete both my BS and MS in chemistry concurrently. Before I finished college, I was married to a young officer in the Navy. The Navy years brought us travel to San Diego, Jacksonville, Tokyo, Virginia Beach, and finally Washington DC. Along the way we had two wonderful children, Brian (born in Florida) and Shelly (born in Tokyo). Each duty station change brought new job opportunities for me. In San Diego, I worked as a research assistant in immunochemistry. In Jacksonville, my work at Glidden Organics as a research chemist resulted in a US patent. In Japan, I first began my career in education as an English teacher for Japanese professionals. Back in the states, I continued teaching chemistry at a community college (Virginia Beach), university (Washington DC) and eventually secondary school (Fairfax County, Raleigh, and Memphis).

Karen Irving KAREN IRVING Pluto Rising (1999) Katy Klein is a psychologist turned professional astrologer living in Ottawa (Canada). A client, Adam, turns to her in an attempt to unlock repressed childhood memories. She's worried by his desperation, but soon finds herself drawn into his life. Things get out of control quickly, and Katy is forced to face Adam's demons as well as her own. This is Karen's first novel, and she's started out with a bang! This book manages to wrap up suspense, humour and mystery in one fun to read package. The story moves along at a good place, with no real slow spots. The writing style is light and very easy to read. Don't miss out on this one! Rating: (8.5 out of 10) Order this book from Chapters (Canada) or Amazon (US). Jupiter's Daughter (2000) Katy Klein is an astrologer who attends a friend's party and witnesses a woman have a seizure and die. It's ruled death my natural causes, but Katy's not so sure. Soon after, a second party attendee dies, and police begin to look at a relative of the second victim as the prime suspect. Katy has doubts about the choice of suspect, and decides to do a bit of investigating on her own. Complicating things is Katy's best friend who has been acting very strangely, and Katy's daughter, who has befriended the daughter of the first victim. Grab this book and settle down...you won't want to move until this book is done! The characters are unique, likeable and interesting. The plot moves along well, with just enough twists and turns to keep it exciting without being farfetched. The story was a wonderful mixture of mystery, humour and touching moments. This is the second novel in the series, and I hope that Karen keeps them coming!
