Jean Genet Né à Paris le 19 décembre 1910. Pupille de l’assistance publique. Confié à une famille de paysans du Morvan, élevé dans la religion catholique.
1923 : Reçu premier aux épreuves du Certificat d’Études Primaires.
1926-1928 : Après quelques fugues et larcins, confié en septembre 1926 à la colonie pénitentiaire de Mettray. S’engage à 18 ans dans la légion étrangère, est envoyé en Syrie.
1936 : Déserte et vagabonde à travers l’Europe.
1938-1942 : Fréquents séjours en prison. À la prison de Fresnes en 1942, écrit Le Condamné à mort (qu’il fait imprimer à ses frais) et Notre-Dame des Fleurs
1943-1944 : Rencontre Jean Cocteau et le milieu littéraire. Échappe à la relégation à perpétuité grâce à Cocteau. Récidive. Libération définitive en mars 1944 (notamment grâce à Marc Barbezat, directeur de la revue L’Arbalète ). Rencontre Jean-Paul Sartre qui va accompagner son ascension littéraire. Achève
