Suomennokset ... Internet Fredric Brownilta ilmestyi keväällä 2001 uusi suomennos Umpikujassa. Brownin dekkarien suomalainen kustantaja on Book Studio. Elämä Amerikkalainen rikoskirjailija Fredric Brown syntyi Cincinnatissa Ohiossa 29.10.1906.

It's hard to label Fredric Brown, but perhaps he can best be described as a gallows humorist, a Cornell Woolrich with a sense of humor. His novels and short stories are full of sardonic smiles and ghoulish laughter, and frequently feature unusual narrative devices as well (in one story the writer is the killer and the reader is his next victim!). Brown's first love was science fiction and fantasy, and his rich imagination and inventiveness spilled over from that field into his crime fiction. Brown was born in Cincinnati in 1906. His parents died when he was a teenager; in his late teens and early twenties he attended college but never graduate. Eventually he wound up in Milwaukee working as a proofreader for a variety of publications. During this period, the mid-1930s, he also began selling short stories to various pulp magazines of the day. By 1947 he was ready to write his first novel, The Fabulous Clipjoint , which introduced the world to Ed Hunter and his uncle Ambrose. This book won the Edgar award for that year, and was followed by six more Ed and Am Hunter books.

Fredric Brown
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Fredric Brown ) is a science fiction author and mystery author who is best known for writing short stories with an humorous flair. His first science fiction story, "Not Yet the End" was published in Captain Future in . Many of the stories which followed are short, practically extended jokes rather than actual stories. Nevertheless, Brown wrote with an engaging style. Humor carried over into his novels as well. His science fiction novel What Mad Universe ) plays with the clichéd conventions of the genre by throwing a pulp magazine editor into a parallel world based, not on the adventure stories he published, but rather on a child's image of those stories and the man who published them. Similarly, Martians, Go Home

B C D ... Z by birthday from the calendar Credits and feedback Fredric Brown (1906-1972) One of the most ingenious American crime and mystery writers, who published science fiction to overcome - as he said - the too real aspect of detective fiction. Brown also wrote television plays for Alfred Hitchcock series. Brown's plots were inventive, he used often humour and paradoxes, and his sex scenes were gleefully provocative. 'Once I said to him I needed a model for an antagonist in one of my stories and was trying to think of someone I really hated. "Wrong," he [Fredric Brown] said. "Base your villain on someone you like. That'll give him some sympathetic traits and make him much more believable."' (from 'My Friend Fredric Brown' by Walt Sheldon in The Big Book of Noir , ed. by Ed Gorman et al., 1998) Fredric William Brown was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was educated at University of Cincinnati night school, and Hanover College, Indiana, where he studied one year. From 1924 to 1936 he was an office worker, and then a proofreader for the Milwaukee Journal . He also became a member of Milwaukee's Fictioneers Club, along with

  • Fredric (William) Brown (1906-1972) was an american who wrote crime, mystery and science fiction. In the genre of science fiction, his most known novels are probably his first sf-novel: " What Mad Universe " (1946) and " Martians Go Home " (1955). He wrote many short stories, many of them published in so-called pulp magazines, and I believe that his short stories have been more succesful than his novels. There are several collections of his short stories, the stories are often taking a certain twist at the end and things are not what they seem to be, for example, in one story of crime it turns out that it is actually the reader who is the victim.
Two anthologies with his humourous stories, " Honeymoon in Hell " (1958) and " Nightmares and Geezenstacks " (1961) have been releases as one volume: " And the Gods Laughed
His best short story is considered to be " Arena " (1944) which was voted the fifteenth most popular science fiction stories ever by Science Fiction Writers of America and was included in the anthology " Science Fiction Hall of Fame Arena has also been filmed as a Star Trek episode.

significant writing, Fredric Brown is finally beginning to get his due as one of the
most brilliant science fiction and mystery writers in the 20th century. While Brown
was well known and highly regarded in his lifetime, particularly by his fellow
authors, his name has not usually been mentioned with those writers of the first rank
(e.g. Heinlein, Bradbury Chandler etc.) from the so-called “golden age” of pulp fiction. There are several possible reasons for this regrettable omission: First, most of his best work came in the form of short stories, and even "short shorts," a form practically invented by Brown, which consisted of caustic, witty tales of only a page or two in length such as these . Brown was also an experimental stylist of the first rank, and much of his work may have been too strange and too sophisticated for a mainstream teen-age SF/Mystery audience. Paradox is the primary theme of much of Brown’s work, and he was constantly looking for new ways to tell tales, (For example, "Don't Look Behind You," a classic murder mystery in which the reader is the victim, or
