HOW IT ALL STARTED
Buena Vista - Linn Grove: A Review of Its Development
of grain with the Wabash River meandering along its east flank. The river is at the heart of the development and history of the little town originally known as Buena Vista, which is translated to mean "beautiful view". Let's go back to the beginning and rediscover the history and memories of the town with two distinctive names in her past ... Buena Vista and Linn Grove.
It all started in 1833 when a few adventurous men from Greenville and Fort Recovery, Ohio set out in search of investment properties that would secure them a prosperous future. Robert Simison, his brother Irwin Simison, Peter Studabaker, and John McDowell traveled west two days. When they crossed the Wabash River they were impressed with the view and decided to stake out an area to develop and build a cabin. Records show that Robert Simison cut the logs, Peter Studabaker hauled them, and Irwin Simison and John McDowell laid them in place.
It is interesting to note that, during the time of the cabin construction, the men observed one of the most spectacular meteor showers recorded in the history of that time. It was said that this meteor shower fascinated some and frightened others.

Robert Adams
Irish surgeon, born 1791, Dublin; died January 13 or 16, 1875, Dublin.
Associated eponyms:
Adams-Stokes syndrome (Robert Adams)

A syncope triggered by heart arrythmia. Biography: Robert Adams received his education at Trinity College, Dublin, which he attended from 1810, becoming baccalaureus in 1814. The same year he entered the university, he became apprenticed to William Hartigan, the leading Dublin surgeon of his time, and after the death of Hartigan in 1813, came to George Stewart, surgeon-general to the British Army in Ireland. Adams subsequently studied medicine on the Continent and returned to Dublin where he established his practice and served as surgeon to Jervis Street Hospital and Richmond Hospital. In 1818 he was appointed member of the Irish College of Surgeons, in 1832 had his Magister artium and in 1842 - finally - became a doctor of medicine. Together with two other physicians, John Kirby (1781-1853) and Read, Adams was instrumental in the organization and establishment of the Peter Street School of medicine. He soon separated from them, however, to found the Richmond School of Medicine in cooperation with Richard Carmichael (1779-1849) and MacDowell, in 1826. This school, associated with the Richmond Hospital in Dublin, was subsequently renamed Carmichael School of Medicine and Surgery. Adams taught at this school for several years, and here originated the works that were to secure for him a place in medical history, above all Diseases of the Heart, published in Dublin Hospital Report. Emphasizing the value of postmortem examination, Adams correlated clinical and pathological observations in cases of pneumonia, hernia, joint disease, ulcers, apoplexy, vascular disorders, and rheumatic gout. It was especially his research on arthritis/gout that made him famous - he himself suffered from it for years. He described it in 1857 in a popular work entitled A Treatise on Rheumatic Gout, or Chronic Rheumatic Arthritis of All the Joints. His name is now chiefly remembered for the Adams-Stoke's syndrome

From 1933 to 1944 he was the Saskatchewan singles champion. He is a charter member of the Saskatchewan Horseshoe Players Association Hall of Fame, and in 1981 was inducted into the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association of America Hall of Fame. At the age of 66, Adams took up lawn bowling and won several city and provincial singles and doubles titles. Shell facing new onslaught over Nigeria By Paul Adams, Robert Cosine, William Lewis and Roger Matthews
Royal Dutch Shell this weekend comes under renewed attack from pressure groups for its relationship with the Nigerian government. Documents to be released by The Body Shop, the UK cosmetics group which has been leading the campaign against the Anglo-Dutch oil group, are said to show links between the Nigerian government and Shell Nigerian executives. Shell's role in Nigeria has been heavily criticised following the Nigerian government's execution of nine minority rights activists from the Ogoni tribe, including writer Mr Ken SaroWiwa. They had accused Shell of causing extensive environmental damage in the ogoni region, one of the main onshore oil producing areas in Nigeria . The Body Shop and other environmentalists and human rights groups have called for consumer boycotts of Shell for not using its position in Nigeria to put pressure on the government. One document to be released tomorrow shows a Shell Nigeria manager writing in May 1993 to the governor of Rivers State, which includes Ogoni Land. "We humbly request the usual assistance of His Excellency to enable the project to proceed," wrote Mr J. Udofia in a letter dated May 4 1993. His letter followed heavy disruption to Shell operations in Ogoni Land, from which Shell has since withdrawn. Mr Eric Nickson a Shell spokesman, said yesterday. The usual assistance means if there is an incident we are obliged to notify the authori- ties that there is a disruption in the supply of oil." He said. "Having done that, and it looked like there was going to be violence and crime, then we normally asked the governor to put the processes in place to stop that."

Date of Defense Availability unrestricted Abstract Significant effort has recently been directed towards the development of numerically efficient iterative techniques for the solution of boundary integral equation formulations of time harmonic scattering problems. The primary result of this effort has been the development of several advanced numerical techniques which enable the dense matrix-vector products associated with the iterative solution of boundary integral equations to be rapidly computed. However, an important aspect of this problem which has yet to be adequately addressed is the development of rapidly convergent iterative techniques to complement the relatively more mature numerical algorithms which expedite the matrix-vector product operation. To this end, a class of efficient iterative methods for boundary integral equation formulations of two-dimensional scattering problems is presented. This development is based on an attempt to approximately factor (i.e., renormalize) the boundary integral formulation of an arbitrary scattering problem into a product of one-way wave operators and a corresponding coupling operator which accounts for the interactions between oppositely propagating waves on the surface of the scatterer. The original boundary integral formulation of the scattering problem defines the coupling between individual equivalent sources on the surface of the scatterer. The renormalized version of this equation defines the coupling between the forward and backward propagating fields obtained by re-summing the individual equivalent sources present in the original boundary integral formulation of the scattering problem.
